Dies won't thread into Press

This is why threads have specs and classes of fit. A 2a should always fit a 2b and there is a surprising amount between a go and no-go plug or ring gauge...about .004.
Bottom line, something is likely out of proper spec.
This is much like the threads that often come up on here about barrel threads. Too tight causes problems and a little loose does not.

I believe Dave Tooley puts it best in this regard..."Dont do anything to make the phone ring".

Parts list includes both 7/8"-14 and a 1-1/4"-12 bushings which implies to me that the thread in the press is cut to a larger diameter (possibly even metric). A good machinist with a capable lathe and the appropriate gauges will be able duplicate the bushing, once they have the drawing and the tolerances required. You then have the question of heat treatment - this is not a try this at home operation unless you want to attempt using Kasenit. Even then you run the risk of warping the part.

In that you have a new bushing on the way, I will repeat my suggestion --- lap the SOB.
Make a new bushing out of 4150 ht bar stock. It will last you forever.

The adapter and offending die will be on its way to Jackie this afternoon. This is a job for a real machinist, not just some guy like me with a lathe who has chambered a half dozen barrels and is still learning. If this adapter is not true, then the cases I size will be crooked.

Just curious but was the testing that you are referring to done by Ultimate Reloader (https://ultimatereloader.com/2019/0...nc-prazipress-120mm-reloading-press-overview/) ? Im hoping not .... Personally I wouldn't trust any review that I see from him.

Until Jackie makes my new adapter, I found a way. The adapter in my RCBS Rockchucker Supreme will fit into the Prazipress larger bushing.

If Whidden dies are like most, they are case hardened. You will have a tough time chasing them. Not saying you can’t, it just might be more difficult than you are accustom to.

I’m in a good mood tonight, so if you want to, send it to me and I will make one for you. It’s really not that big of a job. I can put a standard 7/8 14 thread in it as well as the 1 1/2 12 tpi on the OD.

Or, send me an accurate sketch.

@jackieschmidt seeing as @INTJ is sending you his sample , could you kindly make one for me as well (most of my dies are Whidden) I'll do the honest thing and offer to pay all postage (for @INTJ as well) and your material/time.
Thanks
Tim

This was the test I saw:

https://ultimatereloader.com/2019/0...ng-presses-compared-single-stage-shootout/15/

His results with the CoAx mirror mine. Others here have also reported similar results with the CoAx. He also posted his methodology so we can see how he went about the test.

Others on this forum have reported extremely high satisfaction with the Prazipress. Sitting side by side with my CoAx and Rockchucker Supreme it's easy to see why. It is several magnitudes smoother in operation and the machining and finish are top notch.

While it's only one test, a single systematic test with methodology clearly explained is always better than when any of us on the Internet present the all to common ad hominem attack.

My comment has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the Prazipress. It simply looks like a work of art.

My main reason for not trusting Ultimate Reloader is the fact that he is a paid sponsor and I have never seen him give a negative review.

I have a CoAx and I generally see can see all my cases sized to within 001". I don't know (to be honest) what .001" size difference of brass will make on a target. Has anyone done this sort of research ?

I know nothing about the guy other than he published test results and his methodology, which allows each of us to determine our own conclusions.

I shoot LR BR and need to achieve single digit ES to know my loading practices are good. Part of that process is keeping cases sorted to within .0005" in shoulder length, assuming I can measure that accurately. I measure every case I size and usually am within .0005" on the CoAx. Occasionally I'll get a case that is .0015" out. I cannot image shooting cases in LR BR with that much difference in shoulder length.

For hunting rifles I don't measure each case.

Nice Jackie. Most people would never have the means to do that and fix what seems like a huge problem. This place has some good people.
Joe

Jackie the second picture shows the new bushing sitting on top of the chuck. What are the 6 little punch marks in the chuck itself?
