Did I choose the wrong caliber when I bought the Tikka T3x super varmint 22-250?

The 22-250 is grandpa’s varmint cartridge

The 22-250 AI is better, but only slightly.

The 22 Creedmoor is the new King of the .224 caliber varmint cartridges. It beats the boomer 22-250 ballistically in every way and it even feeds in AICS mags.

The Boomer 22-250 AI and the Non-Boomer 22 Creedmoor are almost exact twins.
There's a tiny, negligible difference in the measurements.

The 22 CM just uses a faster twist and heavier bullets.

Use the same twist/bullets in the 22-250 AI and you wouldn't know the difference in them.

Theres more differences. Not only does the 22 CM use a faster twist and heavier bullets, but you dont need to fireform 22 CM brass like you have to do for the 22-250 AI.

To me thats a waste of time, money and precious loading components. No thanks.

I assume you want to use aics mags. I am not sure, but there are kits to allow aics mags to feed 6 br. I think this might be the solution. The factory tikka certainly feeds 22250 no problem. I personally use one of my tikkas with an aics single shot block and nothing else. That is another option for a bench\target type setup.

Also, a 22250 has a short barrel life. Burn it up with 1500 hot rounds on the bench and rebarrel that bad boy to whatever you like. 22 BR or 22 creed maybe.

If you wanna sell it, i lm looking for a tikka action to build a a 22 br.

Maybe the grand pas were the only ones smart enough to get a 22-250 to feed? I had one many years ago and it feed just fine, but I am nobodies grand pa, maybe I am just lucky. Dennis De Mille and Dave Emary are the inventors of the Creedmoor, I am pretty sure both are grand pas.

The 22-250 aint the new kid on the block but I wouldnt trade my 85 sako for a 22 creedmoor in any rifle if I had to be without my Sako. Doug

I'd see if I can get it rechambered/set back into 22BR. It might require a magazine with a spacer but NBD. There are a number of other excellent cartridges but this is my personal preference.

I run a 22-250 improved with a 7 twist with heavies. Works fine, no need to reinvent the wheel with the Creedmoor rounds, same thing repacked & marketed for a different generation.

I'm not familiar with chassis or the mags they take. But I did build a 22-250 on a LH Savage 308 a few years ago, it has the internal box mag. After the rifle was finished, I did the load devolvement single shot, one day I loaded the mag just for the heck of it. It would feed one or two then not feed, the ammo was jamming down in the box. After a little research I discovered that Savage made a box just for a 22-250 and another for the rest of the short action calibers. I located and changed to the 22-250 box, it feeds flawlessly now.
