Dick's Discontinuing Hunting Gear

I always wondered how big an impact the boycott made on this store? When I did go in the store before they went commie I really did not find much I could use as far as hunting shooting and fishing. No loss here what so ever. Just having to wade through all the yeti crap at the front door was enough to make a person leave.

Yeti and dick’s go hand in hand

With the merger with Field and Stream Sporting goods, are they moving the shooting goods over to them? Or is this more evidence of continued shrinkage of sporting goods market in general?

I saw a post on the internet today that Dick's is contemplating the ending of sales of hunting equipment and firearms. They must be hurting since they took their own political agenda to discontinue sales of black guns, and long guns to those under 21 years of age. They snubbed their noses to the NSSF when the company was expelled from the industries most powerful organization. Wonder how long before they go under a corporate restructure and change their tune of go out of business. I have heard numerous people say they will no longer patronize Dick's.
Its the internet folks...…...Old Buddy's quote "Technology will ruin this country"

I shouldn't say this, the economy is fueled by a way greater source than gun owners. Libs have kids, tennis shoes that cost 8 bucks to make sell for 125.00, little league aluminum bats go for 225-350. Look at under armour clothing, that super dooper fabric in their base layer that wicks sweat and odor from my fat carcass cost 75 bucks, I'm thinking 12 to make.
Not being a spoil sport here, but I doubt dick's is going anywhere. Not everyone shares our passion.
Make no mistake, I hate dick's, they can eat one too.

UA helped drive them to this decision. Most of the items they will no longer stock are products made by Under Armour.

I have never set foot in a dick's, I have no clue on their inventory. I just said money is to be made in the sporting industry other than guns-hunting.

Dick’s didn’t merge with Field and Steam. They bought the brand name from the successor company to Gordon and Ferguson in 2012. They started opening stores in 2013.

We have one near us and they seem to be doing very well.

^^^^^ This ^^^^^^

Inventory likely moved to F&S locations. In most their new markets stores were opened with conjoined Dick's/Field and Stream and the Dick's side of the store sold no firearms/hunting/camping/fishing gear as that was the domain of F&S. Yes Dick's is going nowhere and will not be harmed financially by this move; the sole purpose being a P.C. marketing stunt which, in effect, made no change in the inventory sold by the corporation in whole.

The DH that bought Gander is no fan of 2A either my friends. He has spoken out against Trump many times and has also said he will never sell firearms in his stores.

Just curious, but how many of you ever bought a gun from dick's in the first place?
I USED to love cabela's, one thing I never purchased from them was a firearm. Even their sales are not that good, and factor in the drive to get one.
I've bought one rifle from Scheels. My buying habits must be way different than the bulk of you guys.

Hey Bojo, That is a long ride to shop Grice`s,but worth it most times.I only had an hour to get there from Centre Co.While in Clearfield visit Bob`s Army Navy right up the street. If you never have, you`ll like it. Wish I still lived there. Jeff
Yes we hit bobserved army navy and dennys beer barrel and pub afterwards for dinner. 4 of make it a man's day trip.

I used to work for a large sporting goods chain. Most of the money is in the cheap crap they keep up by the rigisters believe it or not. Dicks is probably way more concerned with selling you a soda on the way out then they are a new gun.

Wasn't the gun industry in particular I was referring to as driving the downturn in the sporting goods industry. Now, this is from my own observations in the area (Austin, TX) that I've live in for the past 20 years. This area was passed over by the real estate downturn and job losses that overtook much of the US, and has been in the top 10 growth areas for at least 10 years. Yet Gander Mountain, Sportsman's Warehouse, and Cheaper Than Dirt all came and went in two years or less. Academy Sports, who also sells guns and ammo, has been doing just fine since 1999. Bass Pro opened nearby, and a Dicks' with Field and Stream also opened in the last year. But every time I go in those stores its empty of customers. I have no idea what kind of sales revenue they generate every day but I can tell you the nations biggest home improvement store chain often sees individual store sales totals of a million dollars a WEEK, and this past Black Friday did a third million in ONE DAY, yet bass pro and Cabelas both have more square feet, and more dollars tied up in merchandise.

My point is that the consolidation in the sporting goods industry is the result of a generation of kids that aren't required to take Phys. Ed in school and aren't into sports in general. This same generation is so hooked on social media that some 65% of them responded in a recent survey said that they'd quit a job that didn't allow them to access social media anytime they wanted. We older folks remember having to ask permission to use the office phone to make or take an emergency phone call

Of course, if the Republicans would just start screaming "gun control!" all of this would just reverse itself. Or wait 2 years and the market will get hot again when Dems take the W.H. and congress

Come'on FOX! We need fake news now more than ever!:)

Austin is not a good representation of typical texans with all the granola munching, LL bean sporting “outdoorsmen”. Go to bass pro in houston or cabelas in league city- packed wall to wall during business hours with 8-10 salesmen handing rifles over the counter
