Dick's Discontinuing Hunting Gear

I have no idea if places like this will survive or not. I shop at a real gun store.
I was raised in the country and think I’m going to be lucky enough to stay there till the end. From the outside looking in at these new housing developments popping up, these people will never know anything but the concrete jungle they live in. Heck, they jump in their car when thirsty to go buy a iced drink. The only time most of them leave, is on vacation. That is usually to a bigger city, that has nicer and shinier things to spend their money on. Not to be doom and gloom, but it’s a snowball picking up speed.

When Dicks decided they were going to go down the SJW anti 2nd Amendment rabbit hole I stopped caring about them. I used to buy shoes, socks,fishing gear, rifles, ammunition etc... for myself and 3 boys. Likewise when Target decided to play SJW I did the same thing and my family has not been back. We bought clothing there for the entire family especialy the wife. We did a lot of Christmas shopping for toys and electronics for 3 boys. Same thing goes for musicians and Hollywood! I vote with my wallet every day and I have a long long long memory. I save so much money based on not giving it to people or organizations that openly hate me or my ideals. I can not always avoid giving my money to those that hate me or my ideals but I sure can try! Baring the power elite SJW and extreme liberal progressive left do not buy toys, hunting gear, fire arms, ammo or consume a lot of consumables because most of them can not afford too. So pandering to those with little money to spend or no interest in your products is foolish.
I have an MBA and yes most of them are either fools parroting from their professors. In fact the more prestigious the school the more likely you are to get an MBA that has learned all the wrong economic models and has learned all the wrong lessons from marketing.
You have to look at business models and marketing pre WWII and post WWII combined with psychology post 1920 just to get started. Focus on cognitive bias especialy the top 24 or 25 combined with modern propaganda or psyops. That said anyone that contradicts the idiot experts that you see on network tv and the like will be laughed at by the other experts on the panel. Every major recession, bubble or correction has been seen well in advance by a few experts and a lot of community college graduates that are always ridiculed and laughed at in advance. After the fact the major tv and periodical players claims "no one saw it coming" which is always a lie. Just like how the main stream media kept predicting a win for Hillary Clinton and everyone laughed and put Trump down as not having a chance from the word go well the "experts" did.
If you study the wrong things, ask the wrong questions or twist the facts to fit a preconceived outcome you will always be a day late and a dollar short and shocked when things do not work out as the experts predicted!
Most of the gun related shopping I do is right here on this forum. We have many members who are in the business and I prefer dealing with them. Their prices are competitive, their products are as described and their reputations what they rely on to stay in business.
Same things goes for the non commercial sellers here. They rely on feedback to be able to sell the items they no longer need, so in almost all cases, you can take what the describe an item to be, to the bank.
Why go into a box store and pay $1,500 for a scope, plus tax, when you can get one here for $900 and it is as good as new. Have a problem with it, you can send it to the manufacturer and they will refurbish it, for the cost of one way shipping.
Not once, have I been disappointed with any purchase from our members.
Of course there are items I need that aren't available here. I am very lucky to have a small gun shop nearby, and the owner has become a good friend. He will order anything I need and have ready in good time. Several other shooting buddies of mine combine our powder loads and usually place a large order with him several times a year. He is an avid reloader and usually has ample supplies of reloaders needs. He is a one man show, and his markups are very reasonable.
So no Dicks, Cabellas, or other big box stores for me.

Tell me truly, when was the last time you bought something from Dick's? I can't recall anyone I know having made gun related purchases from Dick's.
I tried to buy something from them a few years ago but it was out of stock. Haven’t been in one in four or five years. Never going to one in the future.

Would it really make you happy to see 30,000 people lose their jobs
I will not support an antigun establishment just to keep their workers employed. I dropped out of AARP for the same reasons. If a company goes under because it, good! If people lose their jobs - that's life. Do you think any of the anti gun crowd would feel bad for all the people that would lose their employment if the gun manufactures etc. went out of business?

They never had much of a selection, and it focused on the low end entry level items. Walmart and other similar chains fight for this low margin and compete in this area, which makes it a buyer's market. Better selection and lower prices on the internet. Bass Pro is not much different these days. A race to the bottom for price and therefore quality means there will be few survivors.
We bought our treadmill from Dick's, in 2009. Then when the Blackhawks won their first Cup in 2010, we bought some Hawks gear from Dick's. I haven't been back since 2010.
It was before they got stupid, though. I have never purchased a gun from Dick's, Cabela's, or Bass Pro although I have purchased loading supplies from the latter two. I did look at long guns at a Cabela's once or twice, but the prices were pretty bad so I moved on.
I bought one used revolver from Gander Mountain and that was over 10 years ago. That store is empty now, it was closed during their buyout from the camping guy.
When a local gun store beats the price at a chain store, you know they have issues.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is a huge business. They could care about the shooting sports. How about 1.5 billion in annual sales? Why keep Bitching about nothing?
