Dick's Discontinuing Hunting Gear

I saw a post on the internet today that Dick's is contemplating the ending of sales of hunting equipment and firearms. They must be hurting since they took their own political agenda to discontinue sales of black guns, and long guns to those under 21 years of age. They snubbed their noses to the NSSF when the company was expelled from the industries most powerful organization. Wonder how long before they go under a corporate restructure and change their tune of go out of business. I have heard numerous people say they will no longer patronize Dick's.

Won't bother me any - our local Gander Mountain closed last year, but it was a company owned location and reopened as Gander Outdoors a few months ago, so I don't need Dick's for anything, which I proved to myself when they went rogue on AR's and firearms sales in general. Haven't been in since, and if what Rustystud read is correct, they'll become nothing more than a glorified clothing store. Good riddance.

Our local family owned sport store. "ERIE SPORTS STORE " closed its doors this year both brothers were up there in age and ready to retire. Now it's just small local shops that don't stock too muchstuff at realistic prices except for one guy I like to go too. We have a dick and a field&stream 20 minutes from my house. I no long patronize either of those 2. It's 45 minutes to the closest Dunhams or a hour 2.5 hours to shops like Grices. It really sucks making the drives but I stand firm on my laurels that dicks or field&stream will not get a piece of my money. I can be a a Cabelas outpost store in about 1.5 hrs also.

Hey Bojo, That is a long ride to shop Grice`s,but worth it most times.I only had an hour to get there from Centre Co.While in Clearfield visit Bob`s Army Navy right up the street. If you never have, you`ll like it. Wish I still lived there. Jeff

I would say things are pretty tight over at Dick's sporting goods. I use to get fliers in the mail from them all the time, now, can't remember the last time I have seen one. It's the Christmas Season and no ads on TV, local or otherwise. Use to work as Marketing and Advertising Director for a Chain Store and when money gets tight the advertising budget gets cut dramatically. Next is employees until customer service no longer exist. Then it's Chapter Eleven. Never been in a Dick's Store, didn't like any of their ads when they had 'em.

I buy air at Dick's, CO2 for paint ball cylinders, once a year. This fall, they had a ton of hunting stuff but from the looks of it, wasn't moving. Apart from that, in my area, there's a Cabela's in the same shopping complex, half mile away. Between that and the boycott, I think that's hammered them, at least here.

So Dick's thumbs their nose at conservatives and may likely end up in Chapter 11. However, the MBAs graduating 10 years from not will not have learned from it since all the academics will blame the failure on other causes.

I always wondered how big an impact the boycott made on this store? When I did go in the store before they went commie I really did not find much I could use as far as hunting shooting and fishing. No loss here what so ever. Just having to wade through all the yeti crap at the front door was enough to make a person leave.
