I am the committee chair for the Groundhog shoots at our club. Last week we had a complaint about our new target backers. We have switched to a plastic cardboard backer due to its longevity. We had a shooter fire at 100 yards and out of 5 shots got one that the target paper was slightly “keyholed” or slightly out of round vertically. The shooter claimed it was the new backers that caused the issue. (It cost 10 points) I do not think it was our backers, I think that the one bullet had not stabilized yet for whatever reason. His 200 & 300 yards targets were all round holes. No one else had a problem, but I want to make certain the backers are not causing an issue. I am going to try firing upon the backers myself. We have used the same target paper for years without an issue. Looking for input.
