Delta Stryker HD 5-50x56...

Good stuff, Brandon. Can't wait to see what it does on the checker. I think your wife has a good eye--- to me, even the 2200 yd comparison gives the edge to the Delta, though I'm sure it looks a little different if you're actually there. Does it look to you as if the 20x image is a little larger through the Delta also?? Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing

No the pictures don't do either of the scopes any justice to the image quality as far as resolution goes. My phone camera could never capture the true image. Just posted to show the difference in color rendition and contrast between the glass and the similarity of the reticles. Tho I do prefer the image of the Delta, the resolution of the Kahles through mirage stands above all other optics I have ever personally tested. So it's a really hard choice between the two for me because the color and contrast is excellent in the Delta and it has great resolution. But it's just amazing what the Kahles will resolve through heavy mirage.

The Kahles has the edge in field of view as well. But "field of view" is a sketchy subject if you ask me because there's no doubt that the images in the Delta are magnified to larger proportions than the Kahles on the same power. So the Delta has a larger object in the view, but not quite as wide. And the Kahles is wider, but less apparent magnification. So which optic is actually magnifying the correct amount? Is the Kahles 30x actually 25x just so they can say it has a wider view? Is the Delta 30x actually 35x so you get more detail but less field of view? Don't know which one is correct. They both have good field of view either way.

Definitely need to how the Delta performs mechanically. The Kahles has already proven to be perfect in every mechanical test so anything short of perfect for the Delta will put it a step behind the Kahles in this department. The Kahles cannot be beaten mechanically, it can only be matched.

Did a little early Sunday morning optics comparison...

Mounted the scopes on a tripod and just went through some paces while viewing a spot a little over 2K. Very little mirage, but a bit of haze.

After this morning, I will have to say that overall the Kahles resolves a little better at long range on 50x. Heavy mirage or not. For one reason is that the Kahles has a larger focus wheel that allows for finer adjustment. Goes to 800, then infinity. The Delta is smaller wheel that goes to 300, then infinity. But mostly, I think the Kahles resolves better at long range simply due to the fact that the glass is so much less affected by all atmospheric conditions. Mirage, haze, whatever. The Kahles stays nice and sharp through just about anything. Not sure how they pull it off, but it really is quite amazing. The Delta is nice and sharp on max power in good to decent conditions, but in heavy mirage, you definitely have to crank the power down to about 40x.

The reticle on the 2 scopes are almost identical. Love them both. Nice simple uncluttered light hash marks with a floating dot in the center. Probably my favorite reticle style of all.

You will notice the "white washout" effect Kahles uses to brighten the image in my photos. Some of the Zeiss glass does the same thing. Not one of my favorite glass features, but some folks like it. I personally prefer truer color rendition with greater contrast. The Delta definitely gives you an image with nice rich true colors. The photos through the scopes were taken with both set on 20x viewing a clearing at about 2200 yards. I couldn't hold my phone steady enough to get good pics on higher mag ranges. Too much coffee ;)

The two scopes set up this morning. You can see the Delta is actually a shorter scope than the Kahles, but they even out in length with their sunshades attached.

Image wit the Kahles on 20x. Notice the whitewash effect in low light conditions. Tho still a very nice sharp image edge to edge.

The image with the Delta on 20x. Much richer true colors. Provides plenty of brightness without compromising color rendition.

More skyline in the kahles pic, probably would make a difference.

No. Those are just the two pics I posted for you guys. I have looked at tons of different objects and areas on the mountains. High and low, near and far. The Delta definitely has much better true color rendition and contrast.

I was looking for a Pic. to see how they compared, No big deal... jim

Really hard for me to capture good mirage because I have to have the scopes cranked up on pretty high power. Very difficult to get pics through them on high power free handing my phone. That's why I only posted pics on 20x.

I have a universal digiscoping adapter. I will see if I can get it rigged up on the scopes when I get the chance. The problem is getting the camera back at eye relief distance to get a full field of view through the scope. On a spotting scope, the camera is right up on the eyepiece so its easy to set up. Might have to rig up a tube of some sort to align the camera on a riflescope 4" away from the ocular lens. Been raining the past couple days so I've been indoors working on rifles. Hopefully get out this week to do a mechanical test on the Delta and if theres good mirage again, I will try to get some pics on high power.

Regarding field of view that I talked about earlier to give reasoning why I think it's a pointless subject...

If you look at the pics on page #2, both optics are set on 20x. It would "appear" that the Kahles has a larger field of view. And indeed you can see more of the mountainside on the Kahles. BUT, if you look closely, there's no doubt the same trees in the Delta field of view on 20x are larger than they are in the Kahles. If I were to turn the Delta down a few notches where the size of the objects matched the Kahles, they would have roughly the same field of view.

I have seen the same thing with other optics. My point is if you want more field of view in an optic, sometimes you just have to crank it down a bit. You may find that you can see the same detail with one optic set on 20x as you can with another optic set on 25x.

I also want to give a big thanks to @AlloyTargets for making an excellent scope tester. It's awesome for comparing optics on top of a rifle or tripod. One of my favorite pieces of equipment now :)

Thanks. I love seeing them being used in various ways. In fact, I wanted to mention how I liked the way you used it on the tripod (something I hadn’t envisioned), but didn’t want to hijack your thread. I assume you just used one of the six 1/4-20 holes for mounting?? Very cool.

Yessir. I had the scopes on the tester and was trying to figure out a way to prop them up steady when I noticed you used 1/4-20 holes for mounting the base. Buttons right up on my quick detach plates. The small Manfrotto ball head in the photo was a little weak for that load and having a tough time holding up all that weight, so after those photos I attached it to my larger Manfrotto tripod with a heavy duty 3-way head I use for my big spotting scope. Works like a charm :)

I do plan on drilling and tapping a 1/4-20 hole dead center in the plate just to help balance the weight on the tripod head.

I wish someone built a camera that just slipped over the eye piece and had a USB cable or Bluetooth to phone.. Probably need a APP also.. You could have a couple different inexpensive cup sizes, seems simple for this day and age..

You litterally just described the "Phone Skope" adapters I use on my spotting scopes. Has Bluetooth camera controller and cups that can be purchased and swapped out for different eyepieces. They make an adapter for riflescopes as well. Unfortunately, that adapter isn't available for order right now

No, I don't want to connect my phone to a scope.. I have those and it's a PITA to set up. I am talking a camera just small enough to slip over a scope/spotter that has a long enough cable or wireless so you can have your phone wherever you like.. Heck, you could sit back in a match and just feed boolits..lol

It could be fairly inexpensive, phone or tablet could power it if it was connected..

Tested the Delta today. Pain in the ass fighting mirage and wind on a less than perfect bench, but i got it done. The zero hold is rock solid before and after dialing. Turret returned to zero perfectly after a whopping 15 MIL adjustment. Very nice.

It does have a small POA change in the middle of the power range. Honestly this is where I expected to see an issue due to the huge 10x magnification range. I would have been absolutely blown away if it had passed the zoom test. But for a 10x mag range scope, I think this is acceptable.

Anyhow, here's a photo of my testing results.

On a side note: This also confirms that my Kahles is still solid as a rock as well :)
