Defiance Actions

Terry,
I have one of there medium actions with a BR tang and a coned bolt and a trigger carrier. they sent it with three trigger carriers for timing the trigger. It is a well made action with a lot of caming for extration. so for Iam happy with it.

They are very good people and they make a great action. My first time on the phone with them left me knowing everything i needed to know for a project. They even sent me a few pictures of the receiver i wanted to use a couple different ways it could be made. I was'nt a number and rushed off the phone. They make actions for some very well known builders and are used alot. My opinion is with the attention to detail, what they offer and how they are put together they are a little cut above better than others for the money. You won't go wrong getting one from them.

I have had BATs, Bordens and Pandas. The Defiance is right in there with the best of them. Their customer service has been top shelf, much better than anything else I have experienced. Jeff Badelt is the guy I have dealt with, and he can't be beat.

Defiance drop ports won heavy gun and light gun, 1000 yd championship, at deep creek range, Missoula MT August 2011

These actions look really good. I'm glad to read positive feedback. The only one I saw was for sale. I am in the market for a varmint build and may consider one of these. Do they make a repeater? I need to check out their website.

Jim

We're importing them for our rifle builds up here in Canada. I've put 20 or 30 of them togeather now in the last year and a half and have been impressed with their construction, quality and accuracy. Excellent customer service and easy people to deal with. Glen & Jeff are building me a RBLP action for my next PPC build. I would recomme.d them for any build, from a fly-weight sheep rifle to a heavy F-class. I wouldn't waste my own money on one otherwise.

I've got 3 repeater actions, one specifically for a tubegun and two for hunting rifles. They are awesome actions and can be customized just how you like it. Regarding the repeater question, Defiance makes the action for many top tactical builders and they have pioneered support for AW magazines in addition to the usual HS-Precision and AICs mags.

I haven't got my action yet, but I'm going to use one for my new F-TR build.

My new 6mmDASHER is close to complete. I am taking my stock to the painter today.
I still have a problem with the DROP-PORT not working exactly as it is supposed to. The brass hangs on to the bolt on the release stroke where it is supposed to drop down the exit port. (DEFIANCE problem)
John King did the metal work for me, using a PT&G reamer with a .269 nk.. Wanted to accomodate the new Lapua thinner necked brass.
Hopefully I will get the stock back from the painter and the bolt/drop-port issue will be fixed by then. I am really looking forward to shooting this action.
Leo Anderson did the inletting and bedding for my PR&T 'low-boy' stock. The stock will be finished with a 'Decelerator' pad and a GRACO reducer.
I will post more as the project advances..

Barry,
With the beautiful Defiance action and Leo doing your stock you are bound to have a shooter! I plan on sending Leo my action and stock for a winter project. Have you ever watched Leo shoot? it's simply amazing that that many rounds can be sent down range that fast, centered up in that small of group time after time, and a great guy to boot.

I like my Borden the best, and i have had them all. Lee
Lee,
I have owed Stillers,Bat,Lawton, and Witchita, and one other they don't make anymore and I can't remember it's name right now but haven't owned Borden action yet, what do you like about it so well or rather better then the others? thanks.

I have a first generation Defiance, in fact, it's a Phoenix Machine action made before he got rid of his investors and changed the name to Defiance. Glenn knows how to make a good action. Early on, there were considerable troubles with his $350 700 clones that you had to supply the bolt for. I have a solid one-piece bolt in my repeater. I had no problem communicating with Glenn and Lisa on the phone or email.

I ordered my action exactly as I wanted it. I got a long tenon, Nesika style bolt stop, Accutrigger style round rear bridge. It uses Remington pattern triggers and was timed just fine. Kinda like ordering a reamer from PT&G, he will make it just how you want it.

Mine is CM as I don't like actions made of 416 SS.

Please dont think i am talking down a defiance action. Glen and his wife are great people and i do believe they do a lot for the shooting community. They were also very helpful to me. there were some things i didnt like about the action but thats just my opinion. I kinda think the price is a little high, but who am i to say!! I like my Borden action. the price is fair the fit and finish is better, and there are not extra trigger hangers. The timing is already properly built in to the action, so no need for me to change out hangers hoping i get the right one installed. Jim also checks every one of his actions for firing pin drag. Most shooters dont even think about things such as this, but it is a big deal! Theres no doubt Glen knows how to build a nice action, i just personally think jims is better. Thats all!!

Lee,
I never thought you were bad mouthing defiance or any of the other actions I just wanted to know why or what you preferred about the Borden action, everyone has a preference in almost all things, you made a statement and I wondered based on what, I now know, fare price, better fit and finish, no extra trigger hangers, firing pin drag has already been checked and repaired if necessary and the action is properly timed pretty much sums it up, thank you for your opinion and I will be looking for one to check it all out, thanks much :)
