Defiance Actions

Jim's actions have a brazed on bolt handle. I wanted a one piece bolt- they are stronger and give me more peace of mind when I travel somewhere for an expensive hunt. I don't baby my stuff. I think Jim's actions are great but in a hunting rifle that will see saddle scabbards, cliff faces etc. I wanted something a little more bullet proof. If I were building a rifle that was not to see a scabbard or not be carried down cliffs, I would absolutely have no qualms about using a Rimrock action. In fact, I tried to buy one from him earlier this year but his delivery time was excessive on CM actions and he now uses 416 SS for his actions. I would have probably bought one if it had 17-4 SS. Instead, I ordered a Pierce action. (long story)

Knowing the OP, the Defiance question relates to BR shooting only.

I'll take my Bats in that regard........

I could be wrong, but when I ordered mine, a one piece bolt was an option. I think it was an extra $400 or so.

No question a one piece bolt would be a big plus on a hunting rifle, and probably even a good idea on a bench rifle? I haven't ever had any issues either way.
The real truth to all this, is that all or at very least, most all of the current custom action makers are making very high quality actions. They wouldn't be in business if they were not. I guess it comes down to personal likes and dislikes, and nobody can make that decisions but the guy buying the action. Sounds to me like you can go wrong either way.
I also like BAT actions very much. I do think most of them need a little tweaking to compete at the highest levels though. Not that i could ever shoot at the highest level. Lee

i am thinking of purchasing a used defiance CC model but they dont make them anymore. anyone have experience with these? It has a ptg bolt with it.

Thanks
