Deer stand preparation

My wife needs to see this.
She cant understand why i wont haul loads of gravel in my truck.

Oh man o man I’m just now getting recovered from that shoveling. Lol My bow has been in the archery shop getting new limbs and now I’m back on the hunt tomorrow morning after I get it sighted in today.

Today is the last day of our general archery season.
I could of shot a small buck last week but decided to wait for late season when the big boys come out to play.

It's been a weird bow season here.
We've been getting off n on rain last week or so. Generally were dry and don't see rain till middle of September.

Typical here this time of year. We pretty much have a monsoon every spring and fall but all summer long is arid as can be. 2-3" of rain expected today and tomorrow. Pretty typical this time of year. Big bucks went hard horned around Sept 5-10th. Year and a half olds still sporting velvet. By Oct 1st, they'll all be bone.

And man is that the greatest time of the season or what ? Pre- rut, Rut. Both great times to be in the woods with a bow.

Our action doesn’t kick in until around end of October with November being the best part. I can’t stay out of the woods when the deer are searching for each other. We’ve been in the 90’s all week but it’s dropping tonight into the 50’s so that’s my cue to start hunting!

Sounds about par with most of the Midwest deer woods

Re roofing mine tomorrow. Continuing repair from being tossed by twisters a couple years back. Survive some pretty mean stuff since re anchoring. 4 foggers took out the wasps a week ago. Hasn't rained in 3 weeks. Afraid the food plot is gonna dry up. Oh well, such is farming. About $150 I should have used to start a charcoal fire - would have been of more use.

My pup Bodie discussing things with Rufus. Maybe Bodie is an oracle, IDK, but he's talking to 'em awful hard. Probably will say my deer season will suck.

Got the metal on the roof today, door landing redone and door hinges reinforced. Sweep out the innards and add a few amenities inside and I'm ready. Just need some rain for the plot.

This stuff is work but what the hell, my time in the stand is important to me and I want every advantage I can give myself... good luck to you

I do have a deer stand prep question. Like this deer hunting discussion and too lazy to babysit a new thread. My necks starting to swell up and I have an urge to rub my forehead on trees and get downwind of bicycle parking racks. Getting seriously pumped about my upcoming hunt back home in Wisconsin. Got plenty of tags. If the rain don't stop, will be hunting lake shore instead of swamp/high ground edge areas.
For those of you that hunt out of ladder stands. One of my hunting Bud's has Parkinson's. He had an issue with a stepladder while helping his daughter, broke ribs, etc. Doctor asked him if he hunted and in particular in treestands. Was advised not to do so. You know he's gonna hunt, only 72. He's the old fart in camp, I'm the nubbin, only 70. My other hunting bud who is at damn near dead territory at 71 and I are working on fall restraint ideas for the old fart. I wear a harness and use a fall guy retractor or prussiac knot rope system for my hang on stands. Climbing a ladder stand is a smidge different. I'm thinking, still use the harness system but instead use the D rings at the harness waist for attachment. Is there a better way? Don't wanna lose the old fart.

Told him last year "Not to worry, if you have any issues, we'll get you out no matter how many trips it takes"

Building a shorter platform stand on a hillside with stairs on the uphill side is a good way to go and still get a elevated view without the inevitable falling.
