De-capping Problem W/ Neck Die

I have been experiencing problems with the de-capping pin in my my Redding bushing die not pushing the primer out far enough to clear the case. It traps the case in the shell holder. I run the decapping pin holder down until it stops against the bushing and then back it off an eight of a turn to allow the bushing to float.
Have any of you experienced this and have you found a solution?

I had the same problem as you. I was using a standard Redding neck die and the decapping pin kept getting stuck in the small flash hole. I thought it was bent so I bought more and the same thing happened with a new pin. On closer inspection I think the entire pin holding rod/ expander rod is bent. I don't like this set up anyway because of potential runout problems so I am thinking about switching to a Wilson die system. Not sure how decapping is handled here but I think it eliminates the threaded stytem altogether? Anyway, the rod assembly for the Redding is currently on back order or a 30+ day wait at Midway so I hope that is not your problem.

I had one do the same thing. I finnally adjusted the pin correctly by using a Lee shell holder. I placed a shell holder on the base of the sizing die and adjusted the decapping pin until it came flush to the bottom the shell holder. To check how far down you can have the decapping pin set, place a case on the shell holder and stick the die stem into in and see how far the pin will stick out past the bottom of the shell holder.

I've had the same problem in the past, and stopped using the decapping/expanding pin ass'y. I've taken a new, FL die out of the box, from the "big name makers), and without using it, have looked at the base of the die and the location of the decapping pin. Many times it will be radically off-center! Started using the seperate decapping only die as made by RCBS, Redding and Lee. Cost is between $10 and $16. Another method is the punch & light hammer, using a shellholder for the base. Even if you are lucky to find the rod centered in a new die, the first time the decapping pin hits an off-center flash hole, it will be crooked--- forever. And, yes, an off-center neck expander button will pull the case neck out of alignement: never use them either.
