Dasher question...

I just bought a Stolle Kodiak in 6MM Dasher. Issue is that the chamber is a tight neck, .262" I believe.

Am I better off to:

1. learn how to turn casenecks
2. rechamber to a no-turn version
I have a couple hundred new LAPUA factory rounds.
3. just take the plunge and buy the new NORMA brass, which is load and shoot.

thank you all, this is a steep learning curve.

What are you going to do with rifle? Competitive bench rest, F Class or just fun?

With your #3 -- the Norma would not be "load & shoot" in a .262" chamber either.
They basically have the same neck thickness as Lapua's.

Are you sure it isn't a .272" chamber?
Reason asking, a .262" Dasher chamber is not a commonly found Dasher, but .272" are.

Double check your neck diameter. You can send the brass to someone like DJ's they will turn them for you, that's what I do.

Seller said .262". Sounds like I need to cerrosafe .

While forever the .262 neck has been the "standard" for 6PPC is is usually no smaller that .268 or so for the 6 Dasher. If is is .262 those necks are going to be really thin. Best to make sure exactly what it is before making any further decisions. Did the seller provide any fired brass with the rifle? Maybe you can tell by measuring some of those necks.

A .262 neck only leaves .019 to work with. .009 necks would leave only .001 clearance.

The barrel should have the neck dia engraved on it

this rifle came from the estate of a local shooter/gunsmith. He never marked any data on any of the barrels of his rifles.
A great way to spend a couple frustrating hours trying to figure them out. All we have been able to do is stick bullets in the muzzle to figure out caliber, and then start with sticking fired cases into the bolt to figure out PPC Vs 308 BF, and then go gauges checking chambering details.
Add to the fact that his widow does not want people coming over to sort reloading equipment out; and the fact that the friend selling the rifles, etc, won't consider letting a buyer fire a round to help determine details. It took me ten months to get to the point where I finally decided that the Kodiak action and Jewell trigger were worth more than the final price.

It's like trying to solve a Rubics Cube with some of the colors rubbed off the blocks...

If you know someone who turns brass . Have them turn the neck to .009 thickness . If the case closes in the gun . You can load a medium to lite load with the bullet jam in the lands . After you shoot it you can figure the neck is .001 larger . You can do the same using a BR case . Normal shrink back is .001 . Larry

Myself, I would screw the barrel off for the task.

Load a dummy round at .272 and see if it chambers, if it don't pull the bullet and turn it and try it again.... or turn one to .008 shoot it and measure it you will have some spring back but you will be close...... jim

If the neck isn't marked on the barrel, how do you know it's a Dasher? Matt

Screw that. Check the twist rate. If it's one you can live with take it to a smith and have him knock .25" off and re-chamber to a chamber you have the details on. Why risk it over $200?

Simply buy a neck reamer to a larger size.
