If it was that easy nobody would get second place!
The other question- once a railgun is shooting youll get cut for coming near that barrel block with a wrench. They never shoot the same. And a railgun barrel lasts at least twice as long as a lv barrel. 2500rds theyll still win.

I wrote for Precision Shooting Magazine for more than a dozen years. When Russ Hayden was just getting started, we became friends. He invited my wife and I up for a weekend. I ended up writing a nice article for PS about his background and the new business. It let people know who he was. The next spring we are up there again (I shot Hunter BR for several years), and his wife is telling mine that Russ would really like to shoot the Super Shoot, but it was a long drive to Ohio by himself, and he would want to compete and also have a table for business. So, my wife says to her "just ask Rich to go, he loves driving and has talked about going." So, he drove to Boise, and we went to the shoot. They are having the sign up in the big steel building. If any of you know Skip Otto, this is a great story. Skip starts in on me about how he cannot believe I would come that far, and not compete. I had just thought to do an article from an outsiders viewpoint. I throw up this lame excuse about not having a BR rifle, and had not budgeted to pay the entry fees to shoot. Skip takes his dirty baseball cap off (I do not think he ever washed it) and goes from table to table asking everybody to dump the change in their pockets to pay my way. He made three rounds, because the cap would get so full of change he had to take it up to the desk and dump it out if front the ladies to count. He collected nearly $600. And Alan Hall, who I thought was my friend, tells the mob that there are seven relays, and if Kelblys would squad me with two relays between he and I, I could shoot his rifle. So, I got to shoot HV. There were 480+ shooters. I got no clue, but Brennan tells me I cannot finish last in my relay unless I crossfire, because at least one person will.
It was the first time I ever shot over wind flags.
I did finish in the top 100, with an agg around .150". Talk about a tough crowd; I shot an .043" and was seventh in the relay the second target. It was pretty neat, I would run Russ's table while he shot, then when it was my turn, Alan would come get me. Just, sit down and shoot.
Based on that, I do not see how a 6PPC would provide the challenge, or the fun, that the 6BR Remington would.

HI Rich,,,it only takes a few minits to change a bbl when your rail has a "V" block setup,,,,,,I will try and post a pic of mine ,,,,it is a Hasecuster that I have shot since the 80's,,,I broke my neck 6 yrs ago on a 4 wheeler and cant cary it any more,,haha (its for sale ) ,,,you are about to experience the greatist shooting tool ever made,,,with one of these you can find what works very quickly and totally eliminate any doubt about the rest or sand bag or did my little finger get in the way,,,it is just you and the wind !!!....I keep for getting that most of the folks havent shot BR (im not a sling shooter or any of the crawling around on the ground want be a sniper types) I have been blessed with the ability to shoot BR competetively since the 70's,,,OBTW in years gone by the supper shoot used to rotate between SP-LV-UL with one gun and always HV on the last two days,,,times were simpler/better then,,,,To those of you with rail guns: once you have a barrel set up, do you ever switch barrels? I've had a couple excellent suggestions to fit a 30BR barrel instead. Is it a bigger PITA to switch than the extra "fun factor"?

I think just fitting the appropriate BF action to a same diameter barrel, chambering it, and bolting it on. I am going to spend 2019 just playing with it as a 6BR.
Here’s one of my rail setups for ELR shooting..Setup right now for 300 wsm shooting Berger 215 @ 2,990 FPS..
Barrel is 34” long 1.50” dia with harrels barrel brake.
Recoil is ok, not bad, rail guides are 8” wide, barreled action sits 5” back from standard to balance.
This thing has shot a few zeros at 100 yards, was very surprised.. my next step is to build 338 lapua and try it in the rail gun..

HOKayyyy, I shoot some lightweight 338's...... you mebbeso would better put TWO bungees on 'ere before you torch off a 338L w/300 OTM hey.....

I see different ways to secure the barrel in a block. Is a Delrin sleeve around the barrel then clamped down used on modern builds? I have seen it on older HG's and rails. Could you please tell me any pro's & con's.......I am looking at an older rail now with the delrin sleeve.............Thanks.

I have three rail tops;
1 top has round delrin inserts, another top with round brass inserts in newer Kensler rails (round barrel block hole), and the third top is the one shown above (my old homemade)..
I got the idea regarding the V block design delrin inserts from Steve Kostinich and his rail (holds a couple of current unlimited records). My results of using both methods (round hole verses v-block) show no difference in performance. In fact I like the old V block design better...
If you are intrested in more design modifications regarding this setup, please ask and I will share anything I have learned. This will also apply to the 6br/dasher builds..

You guys are right, lots of recoil but not as much as you think with a heavy gun and the right muzzle brake.
I have a 45-lb 338 lapua improved gun that does not recoil as much as I thought.. my next step is to put it into the rail top and try.
Looking at different designs for return to battery for this setup. Also, might use a stainless steel top for more weight.
For the 6br, the setup shown in the picture above will work just fine. I think it would be interesting to see what kind of groups are possible at 600-1000 yards. I can get 5 shots off accurately in 5-7 seconds (if flags behave).

Thanks for your input. This one was make by George Ulrich and is what looks to be a real " meat & potatoes set up. It has no action but will accept any one i choose. It comes with a 6ppc barrel set up for a Bat. I think i am going to get it and see how it goes. I have a 6ppc with the reamer & a nice BRA reamer as well for one of my other guns. I will surely stay in touch and let you know how it goes.

I shot a 600yard match with my dasher in a young test rail last Saturday.
I have not had it long enough to develop a load properly, dog gone it was fun. Have you shot any matches with it yet?

I put a 30BR barrel on my Rail 4 years ago and went to the Texas State Unlimted. the recoil was a little too much, but I did finish fifth in the Grand. I shot a 100 yard five 10 shot group agg of .255.
The aggravation factor was too much to choose it over the 6PPC.
last year, I got tired of trying to figure the torque on barrel blocks, and made this setup. It is basically a big fat recoil lug noted to the rail top. I was going to the Nationals with it but my older brother came down with COVID, and I could not leave.

Same as ive found- anything more than a 14tw ppc is too much to shoot really tiny groups

I am using a rail top that weighs considerably more than the tipical PPC rail top. The top alone crosses the scale at ~55 pounds. The base is 42 pounds. These rails only move the top 2.5 to 3” when shooting a dasher free recoil without catching it at all.
A friend sat down behind my rail last weekend when we took it out for the first time and shot a 1.6” four shot group at 600 yards with my dasher. We shot lots of 3 shot groups around 3/4” at 600 the same day.
There is still a lot of testing to do.
