Dasher dies??

What are you fellow dasher shooters using for FL size dies? I have a set of Forster dies and i am not so sure i like them as well as i thought i did. The Forster seat die is as good as anything i have used, but i dont like the FL sizing die. Ill tell you why. I was setting the die up for the proper head space for my chamber, and the only way i could get the shoulders bumped back far enough was to use a modified shell holder. I had my father take about .015 thou off the rcbs shell holder so my brass would go up into the die a little farther and so i could get the proper bump back. .002. As a result of this i think i am resizing the taper on the case to much. I am not sure if it is because of the modified shell holder or if thats just the way the die is. Anyway right at the bottom of the shoulder were the case starts to taper up my die re-sizes this area .0035 to .004 of an inch. I just dont think it needs this much sizing. There is quite a bit of resistance on the ram when sizing these cases.
I dont see many options for a FL sizer die in the dasher case. I may end up having to neck size and bumping back the shoulders with a bump die. I was just kinda curious as to what some of you other fellas are using and if your Forster dies are resizing your cases as much as mine does. Thanks Lee

If they are sizing too much, Forster will modify the FL die to what you want. Give them a call, they will help you out.

I called Sinclair when I started my dasher. I ordered a redding fl s bushing for about $110. I ordered a forster ulta seater for about $130. Sinclair had both in stock.

Lee,
Do you have your own reamer, or can you get the print it was made from? If so, send it to Hornady and Lonnie Hummel will make you a bushing style full length die for about $120.
If you don't have the reamer print, send 3 pieces of fired brass, and they can make the die from them as well.
When I made my Dasher, I had PTG make me a reamer, and Hornady made the die. My seater is the Forster Ultra micro seater.

Lee, If you don't like the Forster FL. die i'll buy it and you can buy a redding. I'll be happy to load on it,and they will be straight........jim

You are correct about being straight. I usually really like forster dies, but this one is just not sizing my cases like i would like for it to. Way to much brass work going on here. I think i will call forster. thanks Lee

Lee, Mine is pulling the shoulder down about .0015 to .002. As long as it doesn't go over .002 i'll live with it the neck can be honed to the neck tension you want at Forster for 15 bucks...........jim

sheetlee: Your'e probably already on top of it but I'm curious as to whether your brass is fully formed.

When doing an improved case like the Dasher, getting those shoulders to fully form, requires a bit of patience. If you haven't already, look up info regarding false shoulders for fireforming.

You could also send the die and a few pieces of fired brass to Jim Carstensen of JLC Precision and he'll see if it can be done right.

See: http://www.6mmbr.com/CarstensenJLC01.html

My 6PPC Redding bushing does was resizing too much on the top and not enough on the bottom.

He also made me an inline seater. I really like it. 1 easy click and you're 1 thou deeper or shallower. Makes it idiot proof to chase the lands.

Good point but yes i use a false shoulder method to form my brass and usually fire them at least 2 times before i feel they are ready, and sometimes even 3 times. I am going to call around to see if i can find a redding die today. Thanks Lee

.458 is what it measures. A fired case measures .461. It probably isnt much to much, but a little more than i want. The die is really straight i just hate working my brass more than needed. I called sinclair today and they have redding dies for the dasher but they are 115 bucks! Outch!! Forster called today and said they couldnt open up the die. They said they couldnt the neck but not the body. I am going to sell these dies and buy the redding. I hate to but i feel its needed. Lee

I called Redding and had them send me a FL die blank and a set of 6mmBR neck sizing dies and competition seater. I gave all three to my smith and had him ream them with the same reamer as my chamber then had PTG send me a polished finishing reamer and ran that through all the dies. They all work perfectly for my brass and too date, I havent had to use the FL die yet.

My Dasher is 1.560 and I trim to 1.555
