CZ 527 value?

I know what some may say, you already bought it, yada yada yada. Anyway its a CZ 527 in 22 Hornet with an orange colored laminate stock and the sporter contour barrel. Also has a 3-9x50 Leupold Rifleman scope. All in all the rifle is in very good condition. The main reason for asking is just for my benifit as to whether or not I got a decent deal. And if you have a similar rifle, what do you feed it?

Thanks-Bill

Its worth a fair amount. I just sold a 527 17 hornet varmint with nicely figured walnut, glass and pillar bedded, 3 magazines, calhoon single shot sled, leupold rings, timney trigger, and possum hollow bore guide for 1500 plus shipping on gun broker. They are like collectors item now especially hornets. I only paid 600 for it used but never fired with the timney installed and 1 mag in 2019.

They're getting hard to find these days. Odd calibers like the Hornets are pricey but then so are the standard calibers.

Worth what you were willing to pay for it.

The finest mini Mauser the world has ever known was killed off by the desires for mass production and the “long range” fetish.

If I found a NIB 223 or 204 Varmint Kevlar , I’d pay a couple thousand for it if the barrel was straight in the channel. Used? $1000

I have a 17 Hornet, turkish walnut, varmint barrel. Paid $650 new. Wish I woulda bought 10 of them. Go to gunbroker and check out what their asking now

Cool! I have a 17 Hornet I bought new. Developed a load, used it one summer then into the safe. I also have a CZ 22 Hornet barrel , supposd to be a take off. Was gonna put the hornet barrel on the 17 but now, I think not. I have another 527 in 222 Rem. I put a Shilen barrel on it as I shot the original out. That one gets used a bit.

I've got a 527 in 17 Hornet, Varmint barrel and walnut stock. I purchased it new in Aug. 2020, for under $700, which I thought was a lot (on my budget). Amazingly, with a bone stock rifle I developed a load which shoots at .2" and I can't ask for more. Since then have seen them go for $1500 at the gun shows.

The 22 Hornet doesn't seem to bring As much as the 17 Hornet. The exception seems to be the Mannlicher FS model in 22 Hornet. I would say the rifle with that stock and scope would be $1000 -$1300

Like some have said she is a fluctuating market price is dictated between the seller & buyer. In that light she is worth just what you paid.
When new that stock did not seem to be very popular. As a result I had picked up a brand new 204 ruger for likely less than half of what your 22 hornet brought. I would guess the market is generally demanding anywhere from $750 & $1500 for that rifle. higher prices would generally be experienced on the online gun auctions for a firearm in as new condition & select wood, per my observations.

Congratulations on the find.

Agree!
At this point in time, the CZ 527 is starting to be in the 'unicorn' category in rifle terms. I picked up my 527 American (sporter weight barrel) in 221FB at the local pawn shop for $600 a few years back and thought I had paid a premium price at the time.

The little rifle shoots my load of the 40gr Nosler BT or Varmageddon with A2200 or RL-7 at .3".....with a sporter weight barrel. It shoots almost as good as my dedicated varmint rifles with heavy barrels.

Why CZ thought it a good idea to discontinue these sweet mini-Mauser action rifles is something I still can't fathom. They were/are very popular, they shoot very well, loved by many including myself. Now they command premium prices and are almost in the unobtainium category. What were they thinking?

Some 20 years ago when I purchased my CZ-527 American [sporter weight barrel] in 204 Ruger, I paid $500 for it as I recall. I was just getting into shooting ground squirrels and I desperately needed a CF rig. I wasn't to impressed with it at first but once it was glass bedded and free floated. With the right load it is a sub-half minute MOA. While very accurate, the downside is the barrel warms up [retty quick in a hot rat patch.

There was range officer who had Hawkeye borescope and I used it to look down the tube and it was as a good of a looking barrel as any Kreiger, Obermeyer, Bartlin [and others] I had ever seen. So when someone had a take factory CZ barrel in varmint weight available I snagged it.

Anyways, it is a good walk around rig and I'll use it in a rat patch so it doesn't get it's feelings hurt by staying in the safe. I just shoot a few and not let the barrel get hot and when it does start getting warm, I jusr swap it out for another rig.

Like Rick stated, I don't know why they did away with it nor do I know the market value of these but I'm glad I kept it. The version I have looks just like the one Rick posted, except the scope, Mine has a Zeiss Conquest 5-25 with the varmint style reticle.

Basic economics of supply and demand. The supply of actions that work for a Hornet case has always been limited then when CZ stopped production of their 527 model it considerably limited that supply driving up the price of Hornet configured 527's.

The CZ 527's in both 17 and 22 Hornet generally command the highest prices of all the different 527's. I think that is the case largely because there just aren't very many actions out there, particularly good ones, that work for the Hornet case which is why I think we typically see the 527's in 17 or 22 Hornet sell for the prices they do.

I've always been a fan of the CZ 527 and I've had a handful of them all "Varmint" models over the years and they were nice little rifles but the only two I've kept were 17 Hornets.

I think the 17HH 527's tend to go for a slightly higher price then does the 22 Hornet but I'd say if the rifle is really clean and not beat up at all probably anything $1000 or less would be a good deal and anything over that not quite as much.

Yep, probably killed off by that not cool tactical fetish, which includes the fugly bolt knobs and handles, "rails" and "swirly marks" whittled into the bolt bodies.

Did they even come up with a replacement?

The CZ527 evolved from the Brno 465 and then the Brno Fox (ZKB 680 model 2)

The 465 was only available in Hornet (different mag to the 527) the Fox was available in 22 hornet and 222Rem, then the CZ527 came along in 17HH, 22H, 221Fireball, 222Rem, 223Rem, and 204, (did I miss any)

The fantastic thing about the CZ527 was it was available in left bolt but only in 223 and 204, I wish it was available in 17HH or 22H

If R/H CZ527 are hard to find the L/H version is even harder to find
If I knew what I know now I would’ve bought a few left hand CZ527’s But I would think a rifle is worth what the seller and buyer agree

Once you’ve bought something stop looking, unless you are looking for another, because you will either be disappointed (one sold cheaper) or happy (one sold for more)

If anyone has a CZ527 17 HH or 22H take off barrel for sale please let me know
