CZ 17 Hornet

I hope to have a report on my new to me CZ 527 Varmint 17 Hornet this weekend. ;D

An update on my CZ. The stock forend has warped to the point is is almost funny. This is inside a gunsafe with no moisture issues. Perhaps lack of moisuture. Decided to replace it with a HS Precision as the original feels a bit short on the length of pull and the warpage gave me a reason to to be done with it. Then I got my rig back from a gunsmith I had never tried but had heard good feedback on. He had installed my Harrell's Precision brake. The rifle will not shoot inside 3" now - with or without the brake, leaded or unleaded - handloaded or factory (it was 1/2" to 3/4" or so at worst). Seems my barrel got hosed up and the fix would be to whack a few inches and lose some of the velocity I bought this for. Now off to a trusted gunsmith I have worked with for a new Lilja barrel install. Heavier profile and no brake needed to keep sight picture at all times. Maybe in another month I'll have it back to see whats what. I have since learned to dislike the trigger and the action - which is like pushing a log over a gravel road when closing the bolt. I'm trying to decide why I wanted this thing in the first place. Oh yeah - to fill the niche between .17HMR and .20 Practical. Like that was really needed.

I went out and got the rifle sighted in in with just a couple shots @ 50 yards, went out to 100, shot 3 shots that were a 1/4" group, went to 200 and shot my 6" steel target. Shot 2 shots that were just a tad low/right, adjusted up one click and left one click, shot 3 more shots that measured right @ an inch. ;D

Shooting off of the hood of my p/u with a bipod and a rear bag. Trigger is sweet. Pics later after Photobucket cooperates.

Glad your gun is shooting well! I have faith that my rig will shoot when I get it back this time - and look forward to getting it into the field. I got in a few shots on the live guys prior to sending it to get worked on and I was very impressed with the "whap effect'.

Finally got photobucket to cooperate. Pic of the gun with the Vortex on it..........

First 3 shot group @ 100 yards, 2" target dot, 2 shots in one hole.........

Then took it out to 200 yards and shot at my 6" steel target, first 2 shots just a tad low/right, adjusted up one click and left one click and shot 3 more which measured just over an inch so I'm pretty pleased with the way this thing is shooting with factory ammo.

This is the factory walnut stock that warped on you? If it's pretty enough and you want to part with it, I may be interested in putting it on my CZ 17. Mine has a fairly plain one on it now.

I'll gladly sell it. Not a scratch on it. The forend warped sideways about 1/8". If the barrel channel was widened that amount - it would be gone. Don't know if it will go the other way in humid weather - or whether the stock just finished drying out. If you want it, send me a P.M. and make an offer.

I have a 17FB & 20VT, the VT is shooting 32gr at 3850 (pretty close to max the Cooper) the FB is shooting 20gr at 4100. Both shoot minute of gopher. Sure fun to shoot and see the hits. Sometimes it seems its not even fair.
I'm using rem brass for both as I bought 1000 of each a few years ago.
I have redding S Type dies for both.
