cutting oil

RE: Tap Magic Xtra Thick
I have some of that but have not used it to chamber with yet, but it is definitely thicker than the viper's venom.

There's a lot of factors which make it difficult to generalize, the speed, hss vs carbide, amount of feed, machine calibration, tooling, etc...

That said, for the amount of cutting fluid used, and the cost of viper's venom, it seems like a no-brainer to keep a small bottle on hand. I like that old school dark cutting oil with HSS, but tend to like thinner with carbide. All of our mileage varies...

Tap Magic, in my opinion sucks, unless I'm tapping a hole. Its hard on the skin and stains metal.
I don't know, I much prefer to use the clear stuff on aluminum rather than WD-40 where I can. It just so happens that WD-40 works well for a cutting fluid on aluminum. WD-40 is not a lubricant though, so it's interesting that it works on aluminum as well as it does. :)

That thick stuff is way different if you've never used it...it's like molasses...

Tap Magic Xtra thick is what I use with it's viscosity of 300, it will stay on a part at 300 rpm if you are turning it.
Holy crapola...
I use that on taps- great stuff- but it sure doesn't cut/wash off easily, even with brake cleaner.
What do you use to clear the chamber (and the reamer) in between passes?

Working on engines or with oils or cleaning barrels or just general stuff in the shop, I wear those real thin stretchy gloves. Simple, and the hands don't get stained.

I blow it off with an air hose into a dedicated trash can with liner. Then wash it with de natured alcohol, Laquer thinner, etc. Blow out the chamber with an air hose, then using a shot gun patch, dipped in the Laquer thinner, clean out the chamber. The whole process takes a couple of minutes at most.

I also tried mixing some Transmission oil in some of the below, none reduced the friction like the Xtra Thick when warmed with the baby bottle warmer...none even close.
