Custom actions vs. Savage actions ;D

Do we need a BR vs Prone/F class thread? Of course not...

Some of you think your discipline is the only one that counts in these threads and that ALL disciplines run a 3 oz trigger...

Sure had fun shooting this past weekend. Day dreaming right now of the next match and nightmares of the 4 corners of the globe flag directions at the same time....

It's also my opinion, that if you took the winner of a match, and hypothetically changed nothing but the custom action, to a properly setup Savage PTA, he's still the winner. The shooter, barrel, and ammo are much more crucial.

IMHO, that would not happen in short-range BR......again..... matches have been won or lost by 0.001". Other than one Savage at a recent Super Shoot, Savage is just not used in the short range game. There is a reason. To prove me wrong, someone has to campaign a Savage in Registered point blank competition and win something. It is what it is....statistics don't lie.

Well, like I said, I don't shoot competition, so you would know better than me. If they are won and lost by that little, then maybe. I wasn't specifically talking about short range BR though. Didn't Fred Moreo do pretty well in a super shoot with a Savage?

Moreo came in 20th one year, which is exceptional, because the competitors usually number > 300.
To be fair, I perused through the last 21 months of the NBRSA match results and equipment lists. IBS and NBRSA are bench shooting disciplines. I found one (1) Savage that contested a 100 yd score shoot in which he was not very competitive. I found a fair amount of Remingtons, especially in 6 power Hunter Class and a few Sako's. As far as a non-custom winning .....Bob Brackney won 2 rail gun events with a Remington action.
In long range BR I found one Savage win at 600 yds, two 3rd place. There were a few Savages contested at LR, but there were more Remingtons and customs dominated the action type used.
My only purpose here is to present historical facts....look them up yourself and draw your own conclusions as to why Savage is not used more in bench competition.

I remember the Wide World of Sports. They had car races where all drivers drove the same vehicle set up the same way. I'm not a competition shooter, but it would be a hoot to see a like style competition where they all shoot Savages and let the best shooter win. It would be interesting to see the results. Would they all shoot equally poorly? Maybe we would some really good scores and others bashing the equipment.

Erik is a good guy and likes to rib savage shooters but I have a target action that was trued up by Lester Bruno, and shouldered a Krieger 30 BR I also have a custom action by Shilen that was made by Jerry Stiller in a 30 BR, they both shoot identical shilen barrel on shilen action, I did change trigger , I can't friggen remember the name right now, senior citizen lock up, but I set it a 4 oz

I have a Savage Terget action built by FredMoreo at SSS , it's in a Brux chassis stock with a Brux barrel Competition trigger the rifle shots consistant

1's &2's not a bad savage huh ERIK!!

I've got a 70's vintage Rem.700 Varmint Special.....first time out it shot a .187 5 shot group, next time out it produced a .156 5-shot group......I am saving this rifle for the Super Shoot this year because with a gun that agg's at 0.170, ::) it will certainly be a contender. :o
In full disclosure, it has since shot a few larger groups :(......BUT they were called flyers on my part...or i shot in sudden wind.....not the guns fault because "it shoots better than me" ::)....after all it has proved itself to be a sub 2's capable "with the right driver" :o
These shootin' matches allow do-overs .....right? ::) best 2 out of 3 or something like that? :)
