Custom 10/22 Accuracy

DOGCAPPER said:
A Ruger 10/22 can be made to shoot 1 MOA by carefully replacing every part except the fine rotary magazine. LT

Call up Randy at CPC and tell him that. They are NOT a target grade gun, but with a barrel setback, bolt blueprint/ pin and a trigger/ trigger job, they will often shoot moa. Rusty has the skills. They do need bedding as most every gun does.

I have done 3 10/22 rifles with pretty similar setups for friends at work. all had the stock trigger. I switched out the stocks for the Hogue overmold with the .920 barrel channel and put on green mountain 20 inch heavy barrels on all. all I could say with their performance was WOW! with cheap federal bulk ammo, it shot quarter sized 10 shot groups at 50 yards. with wolf match extra, I could run 10 rounds at that same distance and cover the group with a dime. just my experience. I am interested in doing some more and trying a kidd barrel and a fedderssen barrel

Just out of curiosity. How much does a tricked out 10/22 cost? Say starting with a new rifle, replacing the barrel, stock, trigger and receiver, or whatever is necessary to make it shoot 1/2 moa. Real world experiences only please.

Jim,
I will try to make the first meet at Pencil Bluff. I do not have an unlimited any more, but need to work on my 30BR.

justinp61,
I have a 10/22 with a Shilen test barrel that was the best barrel being shot indoors in Shilens shop. I have a rare Arnold Jewell trigger assembly, different bolt, and a crappy aftermarket stock. I will take no less than $750+actual shipping and insurance.

See you then Butch..

Justin,

My Kidd Super grade(threaded reciever and barrel) cost $1300. My Kidd Classic is about $900....then by same token, I have a standard 10/22 that I stuck a Shilen barrel on the Walt Berger did about 30 yrs ago. It shoots jut as well as my super grade. Go figure..

There is pretty much no limit. I have a 10/22 that will easily shoot sub-moa with the right ammo. I'm afraid to total up the $$ I have invested in it, over the years. Seems like there's always something else you can buy for it. I also have a 1968 Anschutz 1411 (Match 54 action) that'll easily outshoot this particular 10/22, again, with the right ammo. The Anschutz was quite a bit cheaper. 'Course the Annie is a single shot, so it's not as fast. :)

On the Old Ruger I have put a 20", .920", Green Mountain barrel, Kidd two stage trigger (8oz/6oz), and a Hogue over molded stock. With Federal standard velocity match ammo it is shooting sub .5MOA ten shot groups.

Got my new MOA action today. I fitted a Kidd bolt, bolt handle and spring kit, buffer. Took small amount go grinding with die grinder and half hour with lapping compound. Great fit now. My Stocky's 10/22 Ansutz thumb hole stock in cobalt and silver will be here Thursday. My second two stage Kidd trigger will be here tomorrow. Got a Tactical Precision picatinney scope base. This action does dot use slip fit barrels (.750 x 16 tip) threads. It also has a rear tang for second/rear screw. It will be interesting to see how well it will shoot.

Mine started with my first rifle I got as a gift from my father at age 14, and I am almost 52, so it is old. I added a VQ trigger and a reworked Ruger target barrel by Clark Customs about 20 years ago. There is no bedding or bolt ork, and it shoots sub 1/2" groups, "5 shot" with decent ammo @50 yds.

Have a custom 10/22 with the following:
Kidd 2 stage trigger
Kidd bolt
Kidd receiver pin kit
Lilja Barrel .920"@16"
McMillan stock
Kidd cocking assembly
Talley rings
Leupold 4.5-14X40 A.O. Scope
Easily shoots RWS subsonic hollow points into one ragged hole at 50 yards.
(This is with A SRT Arms suppressor)-will shoot as good as I am capable of.
.

I have a Kidd Custom and it will shoot just about anything into .5". Feed it Eley Match or Lapua Midas Plus and it will shoot in the .3's and low .4's. Thats from a bench with good bags. But it likes a couple of patches pulled through it about every 50 rounds.

I have a 10/22 with a Kidd 16.5" bull barrel, 2 stage trigger set @ 8oz, Mueller 8-32X44 scope & a Boyd Evolution scope. I can get .3" 5 shot groups @ 50 yds & .5" groups @ 100 yds with CCI SV ammo. I just got my bolt back from Que Bolt Works. He pinned the firing pin, set the head space and added a VQ extractor. This should eliminate fliers and give a little more accuracy. I still need to bed the action. Eventually I want to get a Kidd bolt and receiver.

If your rifle really shoots this well, you are throwing money away doing additional work to it. Knowing you have a great rifle and you are a good shot, post a photo of a target with 5 bulls eyes with a 5 shot group on each bull.

Thank you..

Pictures, or it did not happen. :)

this guy is probly the son of the guy on snipers hide. Who shoots 5 shot rapid fire groups at 600 with a 308. That are less than 1/2 inch not MOA 1/2 inch. And he shoots factory ammo. This has to be his kid. Who else could do it

Not mine, but a 10/22 can be made to shoot. This took a Lilja barrel, a Kidd 2 stage trigger, owner/shooter worked over the factory receiver & innards then three point bedded the barreled action so stress free, from 2006.

He has a record holding .319” at 100 yards from this rifle.
