Current Shortage Duration?

Compared to the situation in 2008 and the several years after, this is definitely not a shortage. This, is a free lunch. Worst I’ve seen lately is having to look a little.

Ration your shooting until you see powder back on the shelves in your area. Switch to shooting 22lr for bulk shooting and continued trigger time, with a little reload shooting just to satisfy the craving.

Most of us have been through several shortages, and have learned to pick up a bit of powder here and there, or on sale throughout the years. In fact, I think you will find that you will eventually have a bit of overstock on all the stuff you ran out of in the last shortage.

Check at a local match or shooting range for anyone that may trade a bit of this for a bit of that. Many reloaders/ shooters have moved to a different caliber of choice after stocking up on what they thought they would always be reloading for. Ask me how I know....

Good luck, don't give up.

Definitely is were you shop as a previous poster commented on.... Around here not much , strangely there plenty of .22 and .22 mag.... I went to a place about an hour or so away that deals in shotgun stuff and they had shot , powder , primers and was stacked to the ceiling with 1 , 4 and 8 lbs jugs of powder.... I have been shooting more skeet than pistol and rifle recently but running into that stuff will keep me going for a long time and when I have to drive to go get stuff because there's no place local anymore I make it worth the trip... Last round was kinda a shocker when they rang me up and their prices were alot cheaper than I am used to for sure...

Just like toilet paper there's no shortage there's just huge demand right now... There's no reason for any of it in my opinion but after Sandy Hook I have enough to shoot as much as a want I guess but it's to darn hot right now for me so I guess my small stock pile will last a little longer , at least till winter then I will start up again...

Here's a tip , get a dry erase board and make in inventory of what you have and exactly how much of each thing , powder , bullets and primers... When you use or add keep yourself up to date.... It makes it alot easier to see what you need or have.... I kept think that I shoot so much pistol normally I kept buying powder and primers... After taking inventory I realized that I had a ton of powder and primers but not enough bullets to load it all.... Now when I go shopping for things I just take a look at my board and know exactly what I need....

Guess it depends on what part of the country you live in , and which powders you use , as to whether there is a shortage or not . Varget , 4895 , 4064 and certain primers are in short supply in some areas . While other powders and primers are collecting dust on the shelves . Certain brands of SRP's are non-existent in the Phx. area .

If you go to buy for a match in 2 weeks, well I guess you are SOL. I plan a head. When you see the shelf’s are stocked in a time of no panic, buy for 5 years and support the gun shop. Don’t bitch when you have not. Varget, H4350 and many primers were plentiful 6 months ago. Really.

I started purchasing after one of the major tragic shootings 7 or so years back.
Primer availability was off and on. I found some, bought a few, still have a few left.
Get a base amount then add. Kind of like mower fuel. 5 gal can, keep one gallon, buy 2 more, use some, restock. Bullets here brass there. Soon you have plenty.

Gorji,
In 2009 when the AntiAmerican Obammy illegally obtained the Office of President it took half way through his second term to see things start to taper off and in reality it took getting Trump in to see the selfs full again! If you can do the math that was 8 years! I suggest you vote for Trump and tell every slacker that says my vote don’t count to get off there lazy ass and do the same!

I just took a quick look at the Powder Valley website. Lots of primers for sale in stock. Check them out, gorji!

Hello:I am relatively new to reloading (6 years).
I want to solicit opinion on folks here about the current shortage of bullets and primers on how long it will last? I am not running short but I need to know how to long so I can "ration" my trips to the range especially when it comes to hand gun reloading.

Be healthy and safe.

Buy what you can find whenever you have some extra cash. Over time, a little here and a little there adds up.
Keep checking the internet sites!

It should BE the discussion! Bozo699 is 100% correct. All you who are too afraid to stand up for what is right and to lazy to vote are the problem. Here in rural Pa the I always hear we can't out vote Pittsburgh and Philly. Thats right. They get 60% VOTER turn out and in the rural counties we get 30%.So shooters who are too cowardly to stand up for our rights and too lazy to vote are a problem, I fear it's a pretty large number. Talk about politics and some want to hush us up....maybe it's closet liberals who want socialism. I wonder. To the OP you will learn to stay 2 yrs ahead to avoid shortages. Just the facts.

You asked the question not me!....
I beg to differ with you! In 2008 I was working at a small family owned Sawmill employing around a hundred people and had been in business since around WWll by July of 2009 we ran our last board through the planner I was a 20+ year employee and the last Electrician still working so I had two weeks more than most mothballing her! My last day was July 23rd and July 26th I went to work for ATK now Vista Outdoor’s I spent the next 6 years there. We ramped up hired more employees built new state of the art equipment and we literally could not make enough bullets, primers and ammunition to keep up with the demand I was working 80+ hours per week and we never letup at all until late 2015!... You ask about the current shortage Duration!?... They have came up with this mass Pandemic simply and for one purpose only!.... to overturn the Trump administration!.... replace Trump and his Staff with left wing fools!.... and bring this country into the new improve socialist/communist way!.... one world government and you say this has nothing to do with the discussion!?..... it has everything to do with the discussion and I lived and worked through it in the shooting world at ATK!.... I think I know what happened if you don’t want a answer to a really silly and by silly I mean really silly because no one!... could possibly know the answer to your question then don’t ask to start with!... this is a open forum and I’m entitled to my opinion!....
P.S.......
I have several hundred pounds of gun powder, several hundred thousand primers and thousands of bullets because I already lived through it a couple times before! I have enough 105 Burgers Varget, 4895 br4s 450s and 6br brass for my 6brx and Dashers to compete for probably 5 years!... you don’t see me asking when the shortage of components will lighten up!...

Happy shooting gorji!.....
