Current production Mauser action??

I built a 284 Win on a Whitworth Mark X action. (Interarms only imported the rifles).

Built a 7X57 hunting rifle on a Spanish Mauser for my daughter. It's sporting a purple Boyds AT-One stock. (I'm sure there is a special place for me doing that).

I'm saving up to put another barrel on an Alpine Firearms Co. Mauser. (Commercial FN) I'm thinking 25-06.

I'm looking also at a Zastava in 8X57 with double set trigger. Stock is rough. Barrel is, eh.
Plan is a 7X57 for myself.

Some digging lead me to finding out that Dumoulin is owned by Herstal.

Go to gunsinternational.com, navigate to Browning, Safari, Medallion, Olympian grade rifles made for Browning by FN. You might find an entire rifle in very good condition for much less than an action, just stay away from saltwood rifles unless you are buying just for the action. Saltwood rifles span the years from about 1968 to 71 with them still popping up into the early 70's. They are very fine rifles with good barrels that shoot if bought in good condition.

Lots of good Mauser actions out there and few not so good. If your gonna build a nice custom it pays to research whatever ends up catching your eye. I’ve had good luck with old husqvarna actions on a couple rifles, here’s a link with one gunbroker, you should be able to one or a similar action for less I would think. I’d try and make sure it’s not an action that’s been pieced together if possible.

The HVA is a great lightweight improved Mauser action, but is somewhat different from the standard 98 pattern ( being standard length, small ring, complicated tang inletting). The drawbacks are a lack of properly inletted stocks and a heavy trigger, for which there is no replacement on the market that I'm aware of. I did a Fajen semi-inletted once, and it was an ordeal. There was a manufacturer of a custom trigger in Sweden during the time these were made and even advertised in the American Rifleman, but I have only put eyes on 1 of them (which I owned for a period of time). Lots more options for the standard 98 actions. BTW, the GB auction is out of line on the price. I've seen complete rifles for less, particularly Sears models.

I enjoyed the days of buying the old Husky sporters at 300.00-400.00 for a couple decades buts it’s getting harder and harder to find them at those prices and I agree, that action is priced at a premium But I don’t think you’ll find one much cheaper in today’s market. I don’t remember the stock I used on two old huskys with the same action but it’s synthetic and wasn’t hard to find at the time. I‘m no Mauser expert though and your input will help the op I’m sure,
