Current production Mauser action??

Another option for commercial Model 98's are Parker Hales, some of the PH's were made on Model 98, I am not aware enough about then to know which models were mausers.

P-H used Mauser actions in a bewildering variety of forms and developments starting with reworked actions cannibalised off clapped-out surplus military rifles (which the company bought up in the thousands in the 1950s and 60s).

Putting later target / LEA / military rifles to one side, it moved to improved and new manufacture Spanish made actions (the La Corunna former government arsenal) in some models, these also being independently imported into the US as Santa Barbara brand actions for the gunsmithing / rifle building trade by a California based outfit.

The later new manufacture models with an improved bolt-shroud were very good, but still M98 based rifles, with side-mounted safeties, excellent timber, new trigger assembly. The late model P-H M81 Classic was a really excellent sporting rifle made in a large range of chamberings and most shot very well indeed. It had an attractive and very trim stock design (unlike many earlier models that had Weatherby style / 'Californian' stocks with excessive combs, thick/square section forends, white-line spacers and suchlike. If you can find one of them for sale, it could be rebarreled, refurbished and have an improved modern trigger installed at a fraction of the price of anything built on a commercial Mauser action. But at the end of the day, it's still a Parker-Hale, and will never have the cachet of a custom job built on a commercial Mauser, FN etc action.

Check out the line up with CZ USA.

CZ 550 specifically. They quit making them but there are plenty out there to be had. I've got one in 9.3x62. It's a full length stock version. The 527 micro mauser style actions are still being made in 222, 223 and other calibers.

A lot of the Husqvarna rifles were built around FN commercial actions, my 640 Husky in 9,3x62 has an FN action.

Lots of good Mauser actions out there and few not so good. If your gonna build a nice custom it pays to research whatever ends up catching your eye. I’ve had good luck with old husqvarna actions on a couple rifles, here’s a link with one gunbroker, you should be able to one or a similar action for less I would think. I’d try and make sure it’s not an action that’s been pieced together if possible.

I was thinking CZ 550 when I started reading this thread. I have two and they have been flawless. I hated that CZ dropped them for the push feed 557, but there are still plenty of 550s floating around in great condition to build on.

I would like to find another CZ550 mag receiver to build a 375 H&H.

The ARC bolt was designed for PRS shooting but I believe he can offer whatever bolt handle one wants. At least that's what I believe. I think the P17 is a good choice for a big bore. Lots of work has to be done to it to get it to where you want but when you get there you have a he** for strong action.
