curious what everyone considers the be the best of the best scope

I like most find myself spending as much time drooling over high end equipment as i actually do shooting. So I started to wander what everyone considers to be the best of the best in magnified optics. Now when I say that I mean the scope that gives you the best chance of identifying a target at long range, being able to see bullet impacts and one that has a solid reputation. It seems to me when I do searches on topics like this everyone says $2000+ low power optics.(10-16x max) from my experience any leupold model, vortex and numerous others are very clear at those magnifications. Im talking about having the ability to dial the power up when conditions are right and really reach out.

Well, I ain't everbody...heck, I ain't even nobody...but I does like mine 4 power Tasco red ring sittin' on top of my Gamo pellet rifle...most clear scope you ever did see!

I wonder how many people know that Schott glass has been used in a few American scope along with other non euro scopes..Minox ships there's with Schott glass, I guess the coatings make a difference..I would say Nightforce cause warranty makes a difference to me. The only Swarovski i have used was for my bow lens so I could tell ya..

If it's a hunting scope, i used a fix power 6 x 42 Leupold. High power, small horns if thats what your hunting. I took a lot of scopes outside in prime time and looked in the woods about 500 yds. away and the best was 6 x 42 hands down. I could see into the woods,so what more do you need? I shot a lot of deer over 500Yd's, so never felt the need for anything with more power. The best part they shoot very good,no eye relief changes like a variable, light weight…….. jim

Optics alone doesn't make a scope 'best of the best'.
My favorite, which I wouldn't trade for anything else out there, is a 8.5x25x50 Mk4.
Nothing special for glass, but functionally excellent in the field. Light enough, bright enough, tough enough, reliable in zero and adjustment to true 1/4 MOA increments(rare).

If you are just talking "the best of the best"<>"no holds barred / money no object" then I believe the Hoensholdt line of scopes to be the "Best of the Best"'.. There is a fellow at the range, where I do most of my load development at, who shoots one of those scopes. He allowed me to look thru it, turn the eyepieces and parallax control to suit my vision. I was looking at 200 yards (where he was shooting from).. The clarity was unsurpassed, the resolution was vividly precise and the "colors or "brightness" of the scope was unparalleled... According to him, it tracks better than any scope he has tried>>>he shoots some sort of tactical matches at various yardages on steel plates... But I have never experienced a scope like that in my life... Now this one would not be used for hunting as it is in the same size category as a NightForce 12-42 NXS... But for just straight up and down THE BEST scope, I can not see where it has any peers whatsoever..

I see they (Hensholdt) have some with 72mm objectives, but the glass appears to be Carl Zeiss..Nice of him to let you change all of his adjustment :)

They ARE Zeiss scopes>>>Just the TOP OF THE TOP LINE!! Yes the gent was VERY proud of his equipment (and rightfully so) and had no problem letting me look thru it.. I could distinguish the "outline" if you will of his bullet holes in the paper at 200 yards! I was in awed disbelief of what I was seeing!!

I like what has been previously posted, but if you want an affordable scope buy a new weaver.

Weaver has some nice selections. I put fixed 6x on my deer rifle and I just love it. Light, clear and no black ring.

I put a 36x on my new Savage M12 BR and it is sweet also.

I have had many weaver's over the year's and never had one let me down. Take a V 6-24x40mm classic and start at 100yds and preset the scope(adjustable obj) to 100 yds.Tell me what you see? The answer is the AO ring matches the yardage almost perfect, not so on my leupolds or any as a matter of a fact.

I cant say anything bad about my weaver t36. for what its made for it is awesome. I cant imagine holding it side to side with scopes in the 2500+ range I would call it the best. A lot of bang for the buck sure.
