Corrected details - WA 10 Round magazine limit

I'm surprised it took your Communists so long to catch up to our Dear Leaders here in the east. Mike from the Formally, Constitution State of Ct. dam it. mikeinct

When I think home defense, I'm thinking shotgun first, handgun second. I have no idea what surrounds the OP house, but most any rifle round will penetrate your living quarters and probably the neighbors if they are close. If you are looking at something that will reach out to 600 yds. either you just became the aggressor or we are in a full blown enemy takeover in which case all bets are off. Simply put, at 600 yds, hell 50 yds. he is screwing with someone else, not you.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

If SHTF like are country is ever invaded by extraterrestrial aliens or Canada, or Yellowstone blows up, or a comet or asteroid hits the Earth, or Bigfoot is tearing at the door, or any multitude of reasons.

The 6.5 Grendel is a better choice in that the cartridge has been factory loaded for about ten years now so it will be more available then the new 6mmARC. Although the 223 is way more available, and heavy bullets of 68-75 grains have some respectable energy. A rifling rate of twist of 1:8-1:7 will still allow for most 55 grain FMJ bullets to be used without them blowing up from being over spun. I’ve shoot many of handloaded Hornady 55 gr FMJ which group 1 MOA 100-300 yards from a scoped AR15 with E.R.Shaw barrels.
Great Round, but make sure it reliably feeds
Have had lots of jams with it , and similarly the 6mm AR cartridge
For combat- reliability matters.

They have strong defenses on facts and logic. It bounces right off.
I'm sorry, this has zero to do with the thread. My mother-in-law is a Democrat and was trying to tell my wife and step-daughter how Trump was to blame for the Russia invasion of Ukraine...this was before I got home from work. To Keith's point, I have a Smith SD9ve with some Speer GDHP ready to go. Here in Illinois, it may or may not have 15 round mags. I can't remember, the river may have eaten them.

Keith has a viable point about defense, You can never know
what is about to happen, and when it does happen; if your
not within reach of salvation, your hosed. I prefer the layered
defense when at home. Stand in each room and figure what
you need to do at that point, because honestly, if your not
carrying, It's going south in a hurry.

I do prefer an open choked 12 gauge with #1 buck as my
primary......If I can get to it. And there's the rub. And we are
talking being at home. Out bound, I carry a Colt .45acp
Compact,

I just got a look at the final bill yesterday night. It appears that someone managed an amendment to remove all of the possession limitations. There also appears to be new verbiage that allows me to bring a magazine I take out of Washington back into the state, so long as it is the same magazine.

With that in mind, I can keep on keeping on with what I have.

We also need to think about the LGS. Not the big chains that can move stuff to another state and sell it, the ones that are actual local stores. They have stock that needs to be sold by 7/1/22. That means pistols that come with magazines that hold over 10 rounds, and any magazine stock they have. As a firearms community in Washington, we need to go buy all of that stock out before stocking up online.

I might jut go buy a couple of new toys over the next couple of month, just to have them....

I'll take pictures of everything, just for my protection, and store the photos with the toys.

Fortunately I don’t live in a communist state so I don’t need to worry about this. But if my state ever banned the high capacity magazines or certain rifles, or suppressors there is no way I would give them up. I have plenty of hidey holes. That is just my thoughts, you do you.
I would suggest you get many spare mags under the limit for your weapons to handle your threat. Magazines are fast to change. Then think about getting vest to hold the magazines.
Minnesota?

Get all your buddies and all their magazines and pile them on a table along with your magazines and everyone take their individual picture standing beside the pile. You might need to rearrange the pile for each picture so it doesn't look like you got all your buddies and all their magazines and piled them on a table with your magazines and everyone took their individual picture standing beside the pile. Bonus points if you stack them on the floor and pile is head high.

The picture thing is among the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

WA was lost years ago, and the voting residents are the dysfunction. Now a firm government employee base of anti western life is in place. And elected officials are willing to handover control, just like D.C. May God have mercy on our stupidity.

There's a lot of conjecture being posted here over what was passed by the senate. Below is a link to the final bill forwarded to Inslee for signature - https://lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/biennium/2021-22/Pdf/Bills/Senate Bills/5078-S.E.pdf?q=20220305163217

It's a short read and only lined text is new.

I just read that. The language used in the justification portion is unbelievable.

This looks like a research project for a 9th grade class. It refers to studies but doesn't cite them. It uses unsubstantiated claims with no attempt to substantiate them. If I turned a justification like this in in my professional life, I would be laughed at. If I had turned this in as a research project in jr high, I would have received a D, maybe.

2nd Amendment is not about hunting or personal self-defense, only liberal socialist marxist democrats use that argument when they ATTEMPT to explain any firearm/gun safety legislation that is counter to the WRITTEN right to oppose or protect oneself from a tyrannical government/elected official.

Thanks everyone.

Incorrect bill details removed

I'm just looking for a stop-gap measure until SCOTUS overturns this mess. As much as I would love to move to another (free) state, I have my wife here who is not impressed with my never ending desire to leave Washington State. If I can find an equivalent job in Idaho, I think I'd be out of here in a blink.

For the inquirers, a 600 yard defensive shot is possible, just not very likely. Think about it a little, and I bet you can find some unlikely scenario where a longer shot might be needed. A little research might find you a case where a longer defensive shot was actually taken.

Even if there would be no need for such a long shot in self defense (or the defense of another), I don't want any rifle that can't go coyote hunting, or out blasting varmints at the very least; deer hunting capability would be a plus.

I'm torn a little on caliber. The data I'm seeing suggests that the 6.8 SPC might fit the bill with 120 gr pills. I think the 6.5 Grendel depends a bit on longer barrel lengths to obtain it's velocity. Since I'm looking for an indoor/outdoor lightweight pet, I think the Grendel is a non-starter. The other option is to obtain an AR10 platform and go big.

Anyone have experience with the S&W M&P 2.0 in 45? A full-size 9mm pistol doesn't make sense any more...

I grew up in Oregon and moved back there in 2007 after I retired from the USAF. We finally moved to N. Idaho in last year
and are glad we did. Almost everyone I have run into here came here to escape a progressive state and well understand why progressivism doesn't work. Most of the people I run into from Spokane wish they could move over here.

Be that as it may, a new trend that is happening now is the tactical lever action 45-70. It seems the Henry 45-70 is the top choice. We heard it's popular in anti-gun Canada as a defense rifle using the Hornady FTX bullets. They get a synthetic stocked one and add a pic rail and optics. We have a couple in the shop right now that we are going to set up that way.

The 45-70 with the 325 grain FTX will have a lot of thump, and it will have way more range than is needed for a self defense scenario. It would also be a great survival rifle. Change to 350-420 hard case bullets and you can hunt very big critters.
