cordless drill and brush

I have been using this device for several months now and it seems to do a pretty good job. I get carbon rings from hell in my pd rifles as they are shot pretty hard when they are used.

The shaft is an old aluminum cleaning rod and the brush is for a dremel. You can buy them in a two pack at the hardware store. I use a nail set to start with to open up the bristles, then use the chuck end of larger and larger drills to expand the bristles to the size you want.

In use, the shoulder of the chamber squeezes down the diameter so it seem to fits the neck very well. It is easy to feel the end of the chamber/case mouth where the carbon ring is, and usually hard to clean easily.

It is crude but I wanted to try it first before I built an "Aaron" model on the lathe.

Bought as pile of bore mops from Shiraz years ago. I would soak
one in "Ed's Red". and shove it in the bore and let sit over night,
then a normal clean. i discovered "Piston Kleen" a couple of years
ago and way faster then Ed's.....Carbon is hard. Soften it up first.
then push it out the right way instead of making it into some form
of lapping compound, then spinning it in the neck, throat and lead.
You want to cut it out, you'll find steel also. Not worth the risk for a
poor man like me that can only afford one barrel at a time.

I use a bronze bristle brush one caliber larger, dab a bit of JB on the end of it, push it to the end of the neck area and twist it. By borescope, every 3rd or 4th time I clean (I clean after each yardage) is adequate on a 30BR with H4198.

Most of the cleaning problems are created because people are trying to be gentle and then end up having to get aggressive when its too late. Like you said, clean it well every time and theres no need for anything exotic.
Alex how do you feel about paste type abrasives as part of routine cleaning? (Iosso)
