Cooling down the bore.

just spray it down with a co2 fire extinguisher:D

I have used a large Co2 tank many times to cool my tubes. I made an adaptor to hook up to a bore guide. I originaly had the tank to air up the tires on my 4X4 after crawling the rocks to get home on the highway. The problem....it attracts large quantities of mosquitos!!!!!

I tried to order aswel...but no go! I would love to try his product, shame the Web site is that picky.

Bryan's BarrelCool™ works great, I've seen his prototype in action.

Two things to note; the unit moves more air than a pump using an impeller rather than a diaphragm.
The design lets it double as an empty chamber indicator as it stays in place in the action - this is great for use on public ranges that have periodic cease-fires for target maintenance.

Bryan is an engineer by trade (in case the 3D modelling and graph didn't tip you off). Low price, American made...should be at SHOT next year.
Is there a phone he can be reached on? I have tried to order from his website, but it not worky! PM me if so.

Spoke to Bryan on the phone. Very nice guy. Placed my order over the phone and I should have it in about 7 Days. Can't wait to try it! Thanks Bryan!

Mine arrived today. Seems to move a lot of air and appears well made. I think this is going to be the deal. Thanks Bryan.

Be careful cooling a barrel if done to rapidly can increase fire cracking. And accelerate wear and shorten barrel life. Due to rapid heating and cooling.

We started off with 28"-30" unturned blanks, and would set the barrels back after 1800-2000 rounds(243 AI with 68g-70g bullets at 3850 MV), would get get 6000 rounds on a barrel, never did see any detrimental effects. The 4th chamber would be a 6 BR.

We did find that Win 760 increased barrel life(243, 243 AI, and 6AI) vs any stick powder with multiple set backs(just do not wait too long), and H335 in a 6 PPC(AA2230-S) and 6 BR (H335)would give is a 8000-10,000 barrel life.

Couldn't this warp the barrel?

NO, not unless the barrel were heated to 800*

Remember, we have used the water down the bore for more than 20 years, we are not novices at this stuff, had access to bore scopes. Rockwell's #1 engineer developed this simple system, he knew a thing or two about metal.

Guys are real funny about accepting new things, but if a guy won a benchrest match with a wheel on his gun, everyone would have a wheel on their gun on the next match.

I have no idea how many times I had cooled the barrel on a Hart 15twist that was on a Stolle panda. I got 10,000 rounds on that barrel shooting p. dogs and it was still agg'n in the high 2's and low 3's when I screwed it off. Copper fouling had got to be an issue and I shot nothing but AA2230-s(fast lot of H335) with 60's through it for 8000 hard rounds, with 300 rounds in between cleanings. You can shoot 5+ p. dogs a minute in a RBLP panda with a muzzle break to spot your hits.

Partner and I had 30+ barrels under our belt cooled with water.

Folks never think of the fact that a tight punch jag leaves little to nothing in the barrel.

Are the batteries rechargeable? Saw this online -

These chargers are specifically designed for specialty litium-ion batteries including the RCR123A and the 18500. Some caution must be exercised as these cells are naturally 3.6V, not 3V as is a standard CR123A. RCR123A cells are typically about 1mm longer than is standard so if you're using 2 in series you need to be aware that they'll be 2mm longer in total - this is not a problem for most devices as most devices use a spring contact for just this reason. All the cells on this page are 'protected' cells that use a PCB to prevent over-discharging, short circuit, etc - please read the specific item descriptions carefully for full details. These chargers include their compatible batteries and are built by some of the most trusted names in the industry.

When I go to the range, I spend a good bit of time waiting for the barrel to cool between shot strings. I fired my usual 50 rounds today, and was able to leave the range 30-40 minutes earlier than usual due to the BarrelCool. It was 85 degrees today.

I like it! :D

We cooled barrels with 4-6 oz of water down the barrel on red hot p. dog towns, finest custom guns and barrels made. We have used this method for 30 years.

Follow by pushing 4 patches down the bore on a tight punch type jag, NOT a slotted jag. Then dry the chamber, start back shooting.

There is also the benefit of cleaning the excess carbon out, which extends shot strings.

It is just that simple.

Rod guide of sorts to seal the chamber

attachment that goes in the back of the rod guide which sells for $3.00 at most auto parts stores and Wal Mart(quart oil attaches to this):

Oil can attachment goes into the back of the rod guide:

The complete barrel cooling unit:

Pepsi bottle, oil can attachment, plus rod guide

This is a no brainer! ONce we ran out of water on a hot day in S.D., and we used Mt. Dew, and diet pepsi!

Found the spout here:

Simple solution. Thanks for the share! I'm going to try it out for rapid cooling during practice days, but I'm also going to try the barrel cooler for the firing line.

Had our monthly F-Class 3x1000, 15-shot string match yesterday. 1.25" diameter barrels shooting 20-30 shot strings were cooling to near ambient within 30-45 minutes when it would normally take 1-2 hours to get it back to the same temperature. It feels good to start another string/relay with a cooler barrel. We were on a covered/shaded line and the temperature was around 85-90 degrees.

I had a few guys feeling the air coming out of the muzzle end with BarrelCool in the action and they thought it felt like a mini blow dryer, exhausting the heat from the bore. This could only be done because BarrelCool is an empty chamber flag and thus can be used on the line when waiting between strings.

That being said, we added new videos of BarrelCool in an AR platform and bolt action rifle along with a how-to video for the battery installation. With quite a few of these out in the market, we are starting to get a lot of good feedback/reviews of BarrelCool working for them.

If you bought one, we would love your feedback and take a picture of BarrelCool in your rifle or on the line and send it to me and we can put it on the website by visiting our contact page.

Anyone ever messed around with small fans for coolind down your bore?
I was thinking of taking a funnel and gluing in a fan from an old computer to stick into my action and cool the chamber and barrel down faster between shooting.

I was at a practice session last weekend where a shooter used a small fan pointing directly at his BR barrel between groups. The range had an outlet within 10 feet of his bench so the chord on the fan allowed him the option. He didn't even need an extension chord.

Did some load development on my new rifle Friday, this used to take forever due to the barrel heating up (90F) outside in full sun to boot.
I'd say this little gem cut about two hours off of my normal shooting time. I got home early and the wife was happy...what's that worth? Lol
