Confessions of a Savage addict

Put me down as a Savage fan - just finished a 6 Dasher project using a Stevens 200 action, why ? had one laying around so i thought i'd put it together as a cheap project, only fire forming some cases at the moment, but its shot a 1.00" group at 300m , so happy with it so far, is it as nice as a custom, no way ! stiff bolt lift, no jewell trigger , rough fit and finish , but its a lot of fun, that being said, i have not had any problems like the OP had with his, but i'm planning another build for next year but its going to be a trued Rem

Hi,
Another problem you could have with your scope, is that it is not tracking true on the verticale plan. It is mentioned in Brian litz book.
You could have everything set up level but when you set up the rifle in a vise and aim at a plumb bob at a 100, as you are tracking up incrisingly you see the reticle moving out of alignment with the plumb bob.
So you can either record by how much you need to compensate laterally at each shooting distances, or you can slightly cant your scope till it tracks straight with out altering the bubble level on your rings or scope base.

The ultimate would be to have your scope tracking up in such a way that it compensate for your bullet spin drift :) that would be cool!

I have a long action and the scope holes are off.I think we should be able to send the action back for a NEW ONE!

I had a 116 with the flat rear and the rear part of the action was cocked to one side and a little too low for any one-piece base to mount correctly. Bad enough I had to shim it in the back. Still shot great though.

I have all the major manufacturers guns, Savages out shoot them all out of the box, did have scope mount issue with my 10 FP 308 though, Savage fixed no problem. I barrel them and they get a rattle can paint job, takes me minutes. Putting a bull 300 win mag and a varmint 223 on two actions next week, the 223 is just plain worn out, prob 8- 10 k rounds over 7 years and just opening up to 1 moa, the 300 wm is a new project from scratch.

Strange, only one mention of Signature ZEE rings and then, no mention of both horizontal as well as vertical adj.

I started playing with improving rifles with an old flat back Mod 10 made in 1958 or so. The scope mount screw holes were way off! Ever wonder why so many old hunting rifle rear mounts had WAY huge adjustments with the two adjusting screws?

So, when I built a long range bench rest gun on a PTA action, I got a Signature ZEE system. I have never looked back!

If you get an assortment of adjusting rings, you can set the scope up anywhere within a ~20 MOA circle. They will allow you to crank in the popular 20 MOA for long range as well as add some offset for miss-drilled mount holes. And, still adjust your scope to it's mechanical center (where the optics works best!).
And, don't believe the bull crap about the plastic rings being un-stable, my bench rest gun shoots some really good groups!
As does the poorly modified receiver of the 7X57 Spanish Mauser I built for my grandson!
