There are so many issues with the NRA, from their lack of focus to the internal corruption, that it gets tiring reading all of the points and counterpoints.
No matter the level of debate, the common denominator is that no change is going to occur. The NRA is an inefficient bloated organization that has ZERO desire to refocus on core values that are long gone (i.e. competitive shooting, youth training, etc.).
They will continue to make promises to change for the better, get back to the roots, blah...blah...blah. The membership level - their primary source of income - has plummeted and the coffers bled dry through the good 'ol boy system. With no money they are on a direct path to auger into a smoking hole faster than an jet on afterburner without a rudder.
The NRA "leadership" ....a questionable term at best.... forgets that competitive shooters have two things that they despise: intelligence and a memory.
The so called leaders have all gotten the internal memo to use the "it's all Wayne's fault" talking points and that we all need to circle the wagons, light the campfires and sing happy songs. After all, Trust us - we're the NRA!
The competitive community - from HP to smallbore - have for many years spoken about issues impacting our sports and nobody at the NRA cared - or even wanted to listen. Even constructive efforts are rebuffed due to the "daddy may I" system that requires executive approval for any action.
As for transparency, I will just use a simple example of the availability of meeting minutes from the various "<insert discipline> competitions committee" meetings. We have better odds seeing the Easter Bunny and Sasquatch cooking s'mores in Times Square.
I have been a life member for over 40 years. At one point, the NRA ran a first class competitions divisions but that is long gone and - let's be honest with ourselves - is never going to return to that level.
They don't have the money, the knowledge nor the will to work diligently to such a goal. Those remaining inside the NRA's crumbling castle walls are using their last remnants of their fingernails to cling to their jobs.
Competitors have lived through this train wreck, see through the BS and have moved on to organizations who support our respective disciplines. Hey NRA - we remember how you treated us, ignored us and how you took your ball and moved to Camp Atterbury (that went well!).
Don't try to pander to those you stabbed in the back. We remember and it's mind over matter. We no longer mind because you no longer matter. You are done. Buh bye.
As for supporting the 2A, it is obvious that other organizations have in fact stepped up an have carried the torch to the point that there ARE other options instead of the NRA. Do your research, donate wisely and personally get involved by voting and getting new people to the range - especially youth and their mothers!
