Commentary on Buyer and Seller Ethics

If a member has the time to place an item for sale or respond to an item for sale then they have the time to act responsibly towards the counterpart with any and all info needed to put both parties at ease. Just a simple matter of communications goes a long ways with receiving positive comments in trade history. Buyer - send the payment in the agreed form quickly and communicate Seller - package the item and ship quickly after receiving the payment and communicate. Trade history will look good for both parties afterwards if integrity is present and follows thru.

One that I love that's happened to me 3 times now on a different local forum.

Some guy posts a wanted add for something that might not really be available at that time like lets say a specific brand of brass in caliber X once fired or new.

I have a 100 or so once fired pieces just standing there not being used so you tell him you have what his looking for.
Perfect he will take it at the price and will come collect with cash, his just going out of town for a week can we meet next week Friday? Perfect!

Next week Friday comes and goes and you forget about it.
Week later you get a text, sorry I was out of town and got busy at work but I still want the brass...

Me- Ok le me know when you want to come and collect.
"Buyer" - Ill get back to you over the weekend but I see I can get the same caliber brass (even though its basically Federal VS Lapua brass) on Facebook for less will you match the FB price?

Me - No buy it on FB then.

They keep you on the line even though your trying to help a person just so that they have a safety net if they aren't able to find a cheaper version of the product. Now they can go buy it new ill rather throw something away or give it away before I sell it to a wanted add again.

Yeah. Just trying to get it for less than whatever you're asking.
I've had a couple try that with the item already in the 'really good price' range.

Speaking of SELLER ethics, I recently purchased some parts on GunBroker.

I bid on the parts and was the only bidder. In the article it stated there would be the normal GunBroker fee for them taking their cut, which I am good with. In the ad, it stated a shipping price for "long guns" and a shipping price for "handguns". These were parts, but I expected I would be stuck with the $39 "long gun" shipping cost.

The seller then proceeded to charge me $58 ship a stripped AR15 upper receiver plus a $33 handling fee.

This is not only an insult to my intelligence, it is outright unethical. I have given GunBroker three tries at this point. The first rifle I bought there was in a different chambering than advertised. The second was a different cartridge and action type on a handgun. Now this.

Never again.

I’ve bought and sold here and other forums for years.
I often wonder what my Dad would think about todays internet business.

I could hear it now
“You mean to tell me you’re sending 1k money order to a guy in Utah you’re don’t even know?????”
God I can hear mine now. I just don’t tell him how we operate on here

When would be buyers stiff you on payment without any good reason or not communicating it, they deserve a negative review and serve as a warning to others. My pet peeve in Classifieds is the WANTED section, when I respond to them by PM and never even get a response of any kind.
