Colt Python 2020

Just got the call from Sells Sporting goods that a 6" Colt Python came in and the price tag is $1599.00 . I stopped in to see it and had to decline the offer even though the MSRP is $1499.00. I just couldn't do it even though I wanted one for awhile I just couldn't spend that much and after watching a few video's on the new Pythons, I'm gonna wait awhile till the price drops an the market levels out and the quality gets a little better , I hope . I went to gun broker and seen some of the prices on there...WOW !

The prices aren’t coming down in my estimation. Revolver prices have increased over the last decade even though I imagine fewer are being sold. When manufacturers consider how difficult it is to produce a steel revolver relative to an injection molded semi automatic they cannot help but charge at least twice the price, and the resources expended is probably more like 4+ times the semi.

I have a 1974-75 8 3/8th barrel almost like nib, wonder what it is worth today. Under $400 new.

I have one, too, but mine has over 10,000 rounds thru it and still runs like a top.

My wife wanted me to give it to my cousin ‘cause I don’t shoot it much. I said “He$$ NO”!!!!
Uhoh! My bad! I thought we were talking Smiths! Long day, old guy!

I always liked the feel and the look of a Python I had a 4 inch 4 digit back many years ago , I for some reason could never keep it in time, no bad mouthing a Python, eventually I got a 5 inch Smith 27 and I never looked back ( it stays in time no matter what I feed it)

I like Pythons too. I should, I have seven of them. My Smith and Wessons live out in the pickups and cars and the barn. The Colts get to live inside the house.

CDNN usually sells a 4" and 6" new Python on Gunbroker.com every Sunday evening. They typically sell for over $2000+. I can't imagine these revolvers will be pressed into hard daily service so that is quite a bit to pay for a safe queen. One thing is certain - somebody will definitely get top dollar from selling an unfired Colt Python, without even a turn line on the cylinder, and an undamaged box and all paperwork. Might as well go ahead and get a letter from the Colt archives so that the provenance will be complete. I'd be a super hypocrite if I didn't confess that I've done the same thing with other Colts. People are free to spend their money anyway they please, however, as I've gotten older, I think more about the pointlessness of laying up treasures on earth.

Long ago when the moon was no larger than a volleyball, I bought a 6 inch Python with their royal blue finish for $125 (new). Then I discovered that the S&W's were really better revolvers (flame suit zipped up) and sold the Python. I have had many Smith revolvers (models 66, 17, 35, 29, 19, 27, 28 and 14 (both single action and double action). Now in my old age, I am down to only my 4 inch model 19 for my defense weapon. In all fairness, the Colt Python and the Officers model Match will outshoot the .38/.357 Smiths with mild loaded wad cutter bullets. I believe that this is true because of the faster twist in the Colts. The 18+ twist in the Smiths is a little slow for the typical wadcutter. Does anyone out there have an Officers Model .38 in decent shape that they would trade for a Model 19 Smith?

There's one of them for sale on Armslist in Wisconsin

One way to get a "Python" looking gun without paying the price. I can't remember if it was done by Bill Davis or a gent from California named Doc Jones. With Mag Na Porting a load of 21 grains of 296 and a 125 JHP with a Redding profile crimp is not unpleasant to shoot. BEEG fireball FAST boolit.

Bill Davis is what the seller claims, and idk about the price part. He's asking $1400 for his. I suppose it may turn into one of those instances where the imitation commands a premium on account of novelty.

Back when I had mine done the Ruger Security Six was about a $200 gun and a Python barrel wasn't a whole lot. $1400 seems about $900 overpriced to me.
