Well currently I have five 1911's and don't need another. lol.. That being said I don't have a S&W Performance Center 1911 yet either. So there might be room for two more. lol.. Need I realize has absolutely nothing to do with any thing gun related..

8 or 9 years ago some 1911's came back from South Korean war era, still in the pasteboard boxes, still in grease packing, unfired, they where going for about $1800.00,,

edit thing: might of been 10 or 12 years ago,,all I know is I bought 4 at 1400.00
and sold at 1800.00 with no problem,,

there was only one Wholesaler that had them and if I remember right there was only a couple of thousand of them,,in hindsight I should of kept them, could of sold them to Hoz,,

Aw common guys we havent had a chance to buy a GI 1911 in fifty years and with the dems taking majoritys in the house and senate in coming midterms who knows if well ever get another chance. somebody out of the 20,000 on this forum besides me must have submitted their package?????

Contrary to popular belief, 1911's and 1911A1's have been readily available out in the civilian market for decades. I have never visited a "Gun Show"?....that you could not buy a 1911 there. They are out there and somewhat plentiful from the days when the DCM and the NRA dumped a shitload of them starting about 12-17.00 dollars each. I've owned at least a dozen of them over the years, shot a bunch up to include Army maintained NM 1911A1's. A rack 1911 is reasonably and the military used to have a particular match where bone stock rack US mil models had to be used. I have since disposed/sold off my Gov 1911's and have a pile of a lot of Colts many, many variations. The only plus I have seen is the Rack guns are parkerized and to me the more is wears the better it looks. Other than that, it's just another 1911.....no magic, no better, no worse. OOOH, Changing the sights is not a very welcomed modification. Do that and you might just as well buy a knock off . Save your money as sooner or later the cmp will be offering prime condition NM guns, they will be pricey, if you really think you just have to have one.

Same deal with the Garands. They were readily available along with Carbines and if you wanted one they were to be had most anywhere there was a "gun show"? or shop. The DCM kept the prices low as at one time they were dirt cheap, and with a little luck you could land yourself a correct grade. I have a Garand-M1- with all correct Winchester parts, and has very, very little use. It come out of the "DCM" under the normal channels......them days are looooooooong gone.

Then the CMP took control and you see how that is working. Some of their
Garands and Carbines bring well >5000.00. There is no way you will get a rare piece from them by mistake.

MY money goes to Colt MKIV series 70, even some 80"s. A full collection of Colts is an awesome sight.....wish mine was.

You will not wear those 1911's out, and the NM guns are just about bullet proof, if treated well. So shooting them is not a problem unless you want to see if you can break the frame,...... and it can be done.

Nope. Once I saw the price, I was out.

I miss the old CMP days. Back in college I had a prof who got me into the local gun club and walked me through the CMP process so I could work extra shifts at minimum wage to pay my $400 for an M1 Garand. I treasured that rifle. Low serial number, all original. From the days when it was true lottery, not graded rifles.

Well summer 2016 I realized I hadn't shot it in awhile, had a group over, so I pulled it out with a few clips of proper, moderate handloads with the right powder. Got halfway through the second clip and BOOM, the gun exploded in my face. Fortunately other than losing all the hair on my left arm and a few small cuts, I was not injured. The stock was in slivers, the barreled action is probably salvageable but to this day I haven't prioritized getting it apart as the normal disassembly procedure isn't working.

It was not an ammo issue. Near as I can tell, it was metal fatigue leading to a cracked bolt. All original on a 75 year-old firearm has drawbacks.

My wife is a gem and within a week she had gone through a friend and secured a replacement, one which had been gone through by Springfield. Sure it's not all original but at least I can shoot it without a flinch...

Bottom line, I'm not willing to pay that for a wall hanger. And if I want a shooter that's not it. And I can get a similar shooter without the baggage soooo....

Actually the 1911 lottery numbers haven’t been distributed yet as far as I can tell. Mabie end of month just in time for Halloween. Mabie my CMP 1911 will be a trick and not a treat as far as Powerball I didn’t play

I did purchase several M1's... The criterion barrel is awesome, able to print some 2 -3 inch groups from the hundred...

The CMP is not really sponsoring marksmanship anymore except for air rifle and maybe smallbore. They are the snake in the grass to the NRAs incompetence in regards to the national matches.
The CMP, once the DCM went away, is a corporation that seems more interested in amassing $. Over a thousand bucks for a 1911 of questionable condition, this was non starter for me. Congress authorized the sale of firearms, given to the cmp by the govt, to foster marksmanship and not fill their coffers.

I have 4 CMP Garands. Two are awesome the other two just shooters. At the price of the 1911's I personally would not risk the "Luck of the Draw". As for the National Match Pistols that are going to auction, I will bid but I definitely know when to stop. Doubt they will have anything to beat my pristine Norwegian 1911 anyway.

well i risked the luck of the draw and have my CMP 1911 now. Dont know if im happy about that or not. I did get a parts gun in nice condition. CMPs position was they didnt want anyone to sell these. I may find out if thats still true. Ive got a couple M1s to.

The consensus on the Bullseye Forum is that the best bang for your buck is a Springfield Armory Range Officer. All it needs is a trigger job and a new fit bushing and it will take you to Master. And don’t bother with Les Baer, Wilson, or Kimber as the fitup isn’t right. They may shoot for a while, but for how long.

Your statement about the SA Range Officer intrigues me. Are you saying that with a trigger job and new bushing it will shoot better, and longer than a Wilson, Baer, etc?

The CMP at one time had 2 walk in stores.one in port Clinton oh.and one in anniston al.If you had a inside man you would not have to pay xtra for collector grade guns.Also being a mail order customer is not as nice as a walk in,pick your own...many yrs.ago (25+)..I had a fone conversation with the former director.He was not receptive to opinions/suggestions other than his own...
