CMP 1911- got my number

Sounds like a protest. For a couple bucks you could join a club like the rest of us have to do to buy from CMP. You make it sound like you’re banned somehow from buying anything from them.
Not a protest at all. Dont have an affiliated club anywhere around me

My dads neighbor talked about the 1911 he was issued. He said all he ever used it for was second base when they played soft ball. How are you going to know if you got a real war fighters 1911 or second base? A brand new 1911 Remington R1 stainless steel at Buds Guns is $607 cash price $625 full retail. As for me you can buy second base for over $1000 i'll take the new Remington.

That’s a great story and I believe it. Thanks for that perspective

Interesting read. www.americanrifleman.org/decades

On July 1, 1965, I landed—by helicopter—in Vietnam. I stayed there until just before Christmas of 1966. Every waking minute of every day of that time, I had the same 1911 .45 pistol on my hip. At night, it was within arm's reach or tied to my wrist. Straight out of the arsenal refinish program and looking pretty snazzy when I got it, the .45 gradually lost all finish. Parkerizing is the casualty when you have to use aggressive cleaning to get the night rust off.

Makes me wonder how many times the parts have been reused In rebuilds?

Rebuilds , still a piece of history.

You can join clubs like the GCA, ( www.thegca.org ) if you are into Garands, or there are some others online.

That would satisfy the "club" requirement. Not too difficult.

The window for ordering is currently closed, however.

PS: take a look at the CMP forum for pics of received 1911's. Mixmasters, (many), but most fresh from Anniston rebuild.

I may join the garand collectors even though i dont own one

Given your unusual circumstances with no clubs in your area that could / would affiliate with the CMP that looks like a great option for you.

Then you could be a CMP customer with a good feeling knowing a portion of any money you spend with them helps protect and promote the shooting sports for years to come.

Dusty Buds Guns will send that brand new Remington to any state and you don't need to join any club. I've heard some people say that the Taurus 1911 is as good as it gets.

I understand the desire to have a WWII gun. As a kid, when things were a lot different, I got my father's permission to ride down the street and buy a Colt Super 38 from a guy who advertised it in the local paper. I had to pay $100 for it in about 1971 (that's $631.24 in today's money). It was pristine and came in a military holster with two two tone magazines. The guy who owned it had been a Merchant Marine during WWII and bought it off the docks at the end of the war. I proceeded to reload for it and shoot the dickens out of it not to mention abusing it some. Bad thing is that I think that gun sent over there as a non-standard firearm for war time use. There are even what appears to be an English crown on the side.

Isn't the Remington a Turkish import, or at least the parts? Or did they use Para's tooling?

My mouth is watering over this to carry:

I wish you could see my 1911 collection. And i already have a few actual 1911’s handed to me by customers who actually carried them including a vietnam era NM. I have them from $10k down to those remington and rugers. I like character. I could care less if they have 100 mismatched parts if thats how they came from the arsenal
