Can we chat about 1911s?

I don't know if this fits into the precision pistol class, but I bought a ParaOrdnance P-14 to replace a Ruger P-90DC that some dirt bag needed more than I did! It is one sweet shooting pistol!

My 45 poor mans race gun.
Will post some groups after this weekend.

Im basically 100% go on putting money towards an accuracy x 1911. They seem to be excactly what I'm after, and my goodness you cannot beat their customer service. Any of you guys dabble in higher end precision 1911s?

Wilson Combat hard to beat. Haven’t tried any other custom 1911 but it would hard to imagine anything better than my Wilson

I’ve shot 1911s since I first entered the Army. Some are better than others, but IMO there isn’t a bad 1911 out there. I have a few, but I love them all....

Have a great day,
Scott

My 45 poor mans race gun.
Will post some groups after this weekend.
Did not take any photos but the gun did sub 3" groups at just over 50 yds with a 225gr cast RN bullet over 6.0gr of Unique. I was realty shocked at how well it did. The RIA 9mm I have built like this will just barley put them in a pie plate at the same range.
This 45 is a real shooter.

I am a huge 1911 fan sadly we don't talk about them here often. i hunt with mine a few times and this is one of my faves.

Just got my first 1911 recently and could not be happier. It was very nicely assembled on an early Essex frame with a Colt slide and internals.

I was pleasantly surprised with it's accuracy on the first range trip. Only issue was one of the magazines needed some tuning.

This gun has settled my questions about performance and accuracy using a 1911. It has passed every test one can perform, ultimately proving it's value at the range. Got a great deal, on a great gun!

I was an armorer for a Military police company in the early 70's. that experience has helped me immensely. the 45 can be quite a shooter

Since we are talking about 1911 45’s, here are my two Battleship Texas Commemorative Colts I bought several years ago.

One side of the Pistols shows the Texas as it looked when she first went into service in 1914, the other as the Ship looked in 1945 at the end of WW-2. When the ship went into service, it had a certain amount of 1911’s on board as personal sidearms for commission and non omission officers.

These were Commissioned by the “Save the Texas” foundation to raise funds. 177BBDB6-4BFE-4411-A1E3-D6FC8677D060.jpeg

Welp, update, hopefully my 1911 isnt being built yet (said no one ever but me) because I sent an email to change calibers from 45acp to 10mm.

Wanted 45 first because I dabble in bullseye competitions, but things change. This gun is now 100% dedicated to long distance pistol shooting so I'm changing calibers.

Fingers crossed its doable. And I dont irritate the poor guys there. :(

I have a historical treasure of a 1911. It’s a Colt kit gun, my understanding is that in the 1960’s Colt supplied Gil Hebard and AMU armorers “kit” 1911’s to be fitted up for bullseye competition. Both 45 and 38 Special were made.
Mine is a 45 fitted up by AMU armorer Jack Maple in the early 1960’s.
The slide to frame fit is as good as my Rock River wad gun. The barrel snicks up tight as it goes into battery. I received it with a BoMar sight rib which I replaced with a Rock River rail and a UltraDot. I replaced the grip safety, hammer and sear and grips. The original hammer hooks were 0.006”, while it worked well I was concerned with the safety of such shallow hooks. Yeah, who am I to doubt the work of the guy who was called “The Greatest Gunsmith in the World” but I did stone a very nice 3lb roll trigger.
My scores with the gun were the same as my best wad guns.

I got a few 1911 full size pistols and I think it's a very personal choice which one you want most. My newest one is the Ruger 1911 because I live in Arizona and am very loyal to Ruger. Don't buy very many of their pistols, but had to have their idea of a 1911. It is a very good example of a series 70 type 1911 for the price. I've seen and had firing pin plunger levers break. The one I have that broke is a newer Remington and the firing pin lever has broke twice. I like my SA models best.

The best value in a higher end, 1.5” at 50yd guaranteed pistol, is the Rock River wad gun(optics rail) or Hardball for iron sights.
One of mine has close to 30k through it and it is smooth as butter and will still hold 2” from a ransom rest.
An accuracy x, Joe Chambers, Brandon Bunker, Roddy Toyota or KC Crawford all have the same 1.5” guaranteed.

From what I’ve seen and read about the Les Baer, that won’t hold the 1.5” group for thousands of rounds like the above builders.

Rock River has them in stock last time I looked.

There is a RRA hardball on the bullseye forum today for $2100 you should look at.

I,ve shot quite a few from a ransom rest inside. All with factory federal GM match.None better than RR accuracy wise. Many RUFFER finished than RR.

Good news and bad, but its all good.

Bad news, it's too far along in the build to have the caliber changed.

Good news, it's too far along to change the caliber.

Great news, the custom frame mounted scope rail is 500 under what I budgeted for it. Im so excited gentlemen.
