CMP 1911- got my number

i thought the CMP threw my application for a 1911 to file 13 but I got my randomly generated number via email the other day. I gave up on getting one of these 1911s months ago and hadn’t been thinking about it at all. From the looks of the number I should get a chance to buy one of these from the “first batch”. I’ll have to decide all over again if I want one. My attitude at this juncture is
“What the hey”. It’s just money— we’ll see- there have been a number of these guns received already
I wonder if someone has tried to sell one and how they did- I’m off to check gunbroker

This is the CMP price structure and grading. What is the definition of an issuable 1911? What makes them desirable for the price? Just curious.

CMP has priced the 1911 type pistols at fair market value in accordance with CMP’s enabling legislation.

Service Grade $1050. Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.

Field Grade $950. Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.

Rack Grade $850. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition.

Here's my take,
If you go through the effort to pursue one of these 1911 pistols why not just keep it?
I personally don't think you'll make profit.
Anything is possible of course.
My coworker just picked up a 1976 Colt National Match $1400
It had hardly been shot maybe a couple boxes in 43 years, came it a walnut display box, beautiful pistol that he believes will increase in value.
I think he's correct

Thanks spj. Pretty simple now since I’ve sent in the application. Just like buying a pistol out of the store with a little wait. I probably won’t know if I’ll really buy it until I get (if I get it) the call and have to decide.

Whatever happens with these 1911's...
I hope they sell well to people that will enjoy having them for the highest dollar that the CMP can get for them.

That will help the CMP with their PRAIAMRY MISSION of Promoting and Supporting the Shooting Sports for decades to come.. :)

I'm not a fan of (individually identified) good stuff cheap that people can buy from the CMP and re-sell for a profit.

Not Judging anyone, just my opinion it.

To be perfectly clear there is nothing wrong with having a war gun. If all the parts and history have can be documented, even better.
if I owned one it would not matter what someone else valued it at.

If these pistols were the ones a person could sign out at the National Matches, accurate and with National Match parts then maybe they could justify the upper limits of cost stated below but the description doesn't state that they are.

Hell
I'm old rusty and pitted"

I have a life long buddy that owns a Springfield WW1 vintage,
Occasionally he takes it out a pops some steel.
a hundred years old and still shoots fine.
To him it's priceless

Id sure love to have one but im a civilian that cant buy one. I dont belong to an nra club but im a benefactor. I guess ill have to get a previously enjoyed one in a few years. Cmp doesnt do much for me. I couldnt buy the carbines i wanted, couldnt get the 22s i wanted, couldnt score a garand or springfield i wanted now i cant buy the 1911 i want

I think there is only one that I might be interested in. That would be the one that I carried almost every day from Oct 67 to Jun 69. Might still be out there or cut up for scrap years ago.
If you have the SN you could post it places and see what happens.

Sounds like a protest. For a couple bucks you could join a club like the rest of us have to do to buy from CMP. You make it sound like you’re banned somehow from buying anything from them.

I don’t think they are. Any match models would likely be sold at the auction

I look at them as collectors and a war 1911 would be desireable to me. Unfortunately sounds like most of these are a mix of parts. IE frame with slide that’s not original

Yeah
That's the bad part about armory pistols.
Well we've already had this conversation.
Hey maybe you could sell it to Dusty!!;)
