Cleaning after Nitriding barrel ???

I am getting a 308 Barrel Nitrided and wondering if I have to go thru the new barrel break in ( shoot and clean ) process, ( after the initial cleaning of the nitride out of the bore ) It was a Krieger 1.450 Dia. 300 WSM with a hand full of rounds down it and I had it bore scoped and it was still in like new condition. Then I turned it down and cut it off and rechambered it to 308 with PTG's 95 Palma reamer to play around with and shoot F /TR class.
It should be done tomorrow and I will post before and after pics so guys thinking about doing it will know what the barrel looks like.

What i would recommend is shoot the barrel enough to get the throat " broke in".
I shot mine about 15 rounds then scrubbed to bare metal. Remember if you have any roughness in the throat it will be there pretty much permanently after nitride.
I know some who JB the throat so pick your poison.

Can't the chamber & muzzle be plugged before the process?
The main idea of nitriding a rifle barrel is to increase surface hardness. Increased surface hardness means the barrel lasts longer, as the throat is not eroded as quickly. So, why plug the bore? That is where you'd want the increased hardness. A good chamber job only takes a couple of shots to "smooth the fluff" from reaming. Or, a quicky 'polish with a patch and a bit of Isso Paste. But, shoot a couple, so you can examine the brass.....

Hopefully, once u set the bbl back, u fired some shots to smooth the throat. Then throughly cleaned the bbl n sent it off for nitriding.
Once hardened, if not previously broken in, the tooling marks on the lead/ lands from the chambering reamer will remain.
