Classified Sales Very Slow - Why Do You Think

As a consumer, there is near endless competition for your dollars right now. It's natural for classifieds to slow down because of that alone. How many black friday/cyber week/holiday sales are you getting emailed or texted or paper mailers on now and over the last several weeks? I bet I'm getting 30+ daily. Deep discounts on tons of stuff. Not to mention less discretionary dollars available due to the holidays or other economic factors.
Kinda like the farmers of the Greatest Generation restored early model John Deere, Farmall, Oliver and the like when I was a kid. Can't hardly give them away today. Now the boomers want and can afford the late 60's and early 70's diesels they grew up with like 4020's and 1206's. Which have started to level off and soften a bit too.

I’ve been keeping an eye on this, I’m 33 and have been on the hunt for a 65-67 mustang that someone has updated and put some money in. I don’t have a single friend in my age range that would take a second look at a 60s vehicle

Seems like watching the car auctions, some of the same vehicles cycle through every couple years. Probably a handful of "museum" owners shuffling vehicles around the country and need a write off(transport). Probably a great way to smuggle stuff or clean up titles.

This. Though overall, sales have been slowing all year long as compared to the COVID years. Our dollars simply don’t go as far as they used to and we’re feeling it everywhere.

Interesting posts thus far.
Maybe it's a west coast thing, but here if you're paying $700 or even $500 for groceries then you're shopping at the high end markets. My wife is a cashier at one of those, 2-3 bags, $450-900 but they charge 2-4x for the exact same items that other markets charge. The only time she buys there is when something is 50% off and then she gets an employee discount on top of it, otherwise it's more than simply going to another market.
Wallyland dry goods went up earlier this year, way up, but they are still half what Safeway/Albertsons charges for the exact same item.
Fruit and veggies are mostly the same prices at Safeway/Albertsons as they were in 2018/2019, maybe a few more cents per pound. Eggs, those recently went up. WOWZA but we had fair warning to expect it and sure enough it finally hit.
Costco, our bill hasn't really changed a lot since 2019 but most items we only buy when on sale and we generally get meats when those are at lower prices in the normal cycles, vacuum pack and freezer solves that for variety. Not long ago beef was super cheap so we enjoyed that, fish was really high but only for 6-8 mo and back down to the normal nose bleed prices. Beef is about $2/lb more than usual so other than roasts we just wait but there's still deal to be had. I usually get stuff like NY steaks in the bag and cut them myself, it was $2/lb less than cut. Why pay their people to cut meat, wages are costly and you're also adding contamination risk. Most stuff at costco waits for a sale and we stock up on it, like anything that will keep. Also like most places and Costco is no different, you need to know prices because many items are great deals, but many items are definitely NOT compared to other places.
Insurance home and auto, now that's went up, way up. Utilities, taxes, fees, etc. all those they have a monopoly or it's required by law so they just add to the prices all the time. We call them what they are, thieves.
I guess my point is while we did see priced spike for a bit due to covid supply issues, it's mostly back to normal for many goods. Anything labor intensive costs a lot more. We're back to spending again and this fall is no exception. I think there's lots of spending going on, just maybe in different ways. Many people buy on-line these days so in-store might be taking a hit.
Autos: those that are into frame up rebuilds of classics or high end stuff with super low miles if you're not familiar with bringatrailer . com (BAT), check it out.

Im also on a state forum classifieds. I check everyday for years. It has slowed way down the past 2 years. Bidenomics hard at work for the people! I have a good job, but my raises aint keeping pace with inflation. If I made this much with 2019 prices Id be having alex wheeler building me customs, not rebarreling tikkas and eating top ramen....

IMHO, the under 45 year olds are majoritally two ignorant* to learn how to reload or shoot skilled courses of fire. They do not understand the savings in reloading either, or be able to focus sitting at a bench loading ammunition for more than 15 minutes. FYI: my 7&9 year old great-nephews get fidgety after about one tube worth, sitting at a bench tubing primers while I load.
Their Dad is a great guy, but I have a Dillon 1050 sitting here set up for 9mm. He has a Canik, but would rather shop for bulk loaded 9 than load his own.

Back in the early 80s, I subscribed to a publication called the Tightwad Gazette. Probably something that could thrive in today’s time. A tremendous amount of tips to cut cost, save money, and get ahead. A lot of it was common sense, something scarce nowadays.
I’m at the point where if I think I need something shooting wise, I try and sell something shooting wise, and keep the money in the same venture.
And an FYI, if anyone has the audacity to actually call you a tightwad, just remind them that you aren’t. Tell them you’re just thrifty…

Just my thoughts here. I've sold several several things on here and I price them to move. If I've got it for sale I want it gone. I always try to be honest in every way with the sale. Sometimes I need help with the pricing and this community is pretty good about it. If it don't move I'll cut the price until someone bites. That being said I've never sold large ticket items like scopes or rifles. While the thought is in my head, if I've ever done anyone wrong or mis represented something please let me fix it. I've sold lots of stuff where there was no feedback left and communication came to an abrupt end.
Yes! There's one set of ads on here, more than one, that almost ALWAYS are at the top. It's 99% bumps by the seller. Get the hint man. If you think this post is about you, it is.
