Classified Sales Very Slow - Why Do You Think

Wow, what was it full of, meat and wine?
My kids are off at college, so for emergencies I gave them credit cards. My youngest goes and spends $210 at a safeway. I blew a gasket -- and we had an extensive discussion on budgeting and frugality.
Her boyfriend may come from a family worth tens of millions, but her dad certainly is not!

If you look at your property tax bill, they will itemize the levies and bonds that voters approved. 1/4th of my property tax bill is for those things, and to me it's a staggering amount. I live in an unincorporated area, and two blocks away where they are within city limits, they pay more than double what I pay.
Last year they tried to double one of those line items, It didn't quite work out too well for them, 3000 people showed up at the truth in taxation meeting when normally 20 people show up, There was not enough room for everybody, Some folks were carrying real pitchforks!
The commisioners went ahead and voted anyway! The next day the county attorney told them what they did was illegal so they had to recant their votes and it made them put it on the ballot, It went down in flames when it went to vote.

Show up at your county meetings, It can make a difference.

Ok, my take. Been a member here since 2014. I've sold stuff and really got on a selling binge lately when I offered to sell my lifelong friend Keith's stuff. Not making a dime on this. I guess it's probably easier to sell someone else's stuff, but I still feel an obligation to the heirs to get a fair price on products. Key word...fair price. The market determines that. I do some research on values and post with pics and details...and believe I reply to questions in a timely fashion. I've sold and shipped over 100 items , over 22K so far. If things don't sell after a week or so, lower the price...may be too high??? Maybe not.......Of all those transactions and if I recall correctly, I've had 2 problems. One was I sent the product to the wrong guy. He was gracious to contact me and ship it to the correct buyer...thanks, don't recall your name right now. The other problem I had here was a moron that fell for an email some scammer sent him instead of paying attention to the Forum Boss' post about scammers...just can't fix stupid, he didn't contact me and believed the scammer.... DDUUUHHH....So, I have been shooting competitive for over 20 years and know many shooters. They know my character...OOPS... Many have bought things from bullet dies, jackets, barrels, guns, triggers, you name it, and I thank all of you. Many have probably seen my ads, some have visited my shop to pick up stuff, and it was great to visit fellow shooters. Just sold another Br rifle today. There is possible 15-20 varmint rifles that I'm not going to deal with. Keith was a great guy, confirmed bachelor, lifelong shooter, Veteran. Tight ASS....except for shooting and travelling with his friends. Pulled up to a tool booth one time, he was in the back seat, deaf as hell, toll was $4.00 and he handed up a quarter...:cool::cool:

A fair price for a good product, deal with a good seller, and the buyer and the seller will determine the end game. Looks like if no one likes your prices that the way it is. It seems to me that the buyers I've dealt with have been a pretty well-respected bunch of folks to deal with, Thanks,.

Thanks to all of you who have bought Keith's stuff from me, I appreciate it. Pretty well done with the smaller stuff, down to the BR rifles and scopes. Selling stuff for $10 shipping included is the bottom line before the dumpster...

6.5X284 15# BAT coming up next. Wood stock, looks like new. Don't believe he ever competed with it. Getting bore scope back from repair to look inside this week. Bolt is Pristine....would let go for 3M..... :p

Later

Dave

One more nugget from me and I'll shut up about it.

I get that people want protections, on both ends.

On the flip side, as sellers make more and more stipluations about how they want to process the sale (txt, then a video, etc), and what they accept for payment, it makes the classifieds less desirable. Sometimes you want to just click, add to cart, and checkout. I'm at work for a large part of the time when USPS is open, so getting a money order is a pain. If you work in places that don't allow personal devices, like SCIFs, and people have timezone differences, it's easy to get frustred with the more elaborate processes.

I want the item sooner than 2-3 weeks out. Here's how it gets to 2-3 weeks. It's a couple of days to get a MO, mailing it, maybe a delay, delivery, cashing/clearing, and it's inevitable that someone has a dealy in shipping.

Sometimes, I simply don't care about your 5-10% discount over new, so I can get it way faster.

If it is something I want and it is priced fairly, I buy. If the seller is trying to pay for their second home with the price, not going to happen. PayPal is an automatic NO! I refuse to use a platform that is Anti, period! Repeated bumping of the same items with no price adjustment, by the same seller will often cause me to just scroll past all of their listings. If I want to pay retail, I will go to a local shop where I can actually see and handle the item or buy direct from the manufacturer. Should I ever list something for sale, quote a price and someone says they will buy it, I will honor my word, even if I lose money doing so. If I catch my mistake before anyone commits to buy, I will most likely correct my error before anyone does commit. I have yet to sell anything but, as I get older, I can see that day coming eventually. When buying, I do take into account cost of shipping, unless it is included in the price.

I own 100% of the equity in my home. Equity means nothing to me. I don't plan on starting the clock over.

My Sister's house payment went up $500.00 a month this year and they are panicking. Insurance companies are finding every excuse to raise rates and to not pay claims. My parents insurance company flew a drone over their house and then sent them a letter saying they were going to cancel because they were in a fire zone, They said they needed a roof too. There was nothing wrong with the roof.

They also said there was nothing they could do to stop them from canceling. My mom called another insurance company and they were more than happy to take her money and then 30 days later sent her a letter telling her a list of things that had to be done or she would get cancelled from them also.

I shopped around and found another Agricultural Insurance company that would not hassle them, Then I called and cancelled the second insurance company.

But not before my folks had spent the money for a new roof, That was 3 times more expensive than my roof was in 2017.

I was ready to be self insured if my insurance company was going to try that with me, I don't think they are pulling as many shenanigans with people who own their homes outright, But if you have a mortgage, They have you over a barrel and they know it.
You own 100% equity only if you pay the property taxes !!!!!!!

From the middle of November through the middle of January, between porch pirates, shipping delays, and lost items in shipping are just not worth dealing with all the hassle. JME. WD

That’s a fact! I left my iPad at my mother in law’s home in Florida when we went down for Thanksgiving, and I decided to wait until after New Year’s to ship it back to me, because of all the problems with shipping and deliveries.

I went to Thanksgiving this year And I watched all the children sit in a circle on their phones. For hours. All sitting in a big circle mindlessly staring at their phones. Everyone who wasn't a child noticed it and commented on it later. I'm not sure this can be undone.
Watch what they eat. Pizza, bread with gobs of butter and anything with sugar.

Here's a datapoint to ponder.

I had a 6BR 737 Prefit for sale here for 3 months. Zero bites. I pulled it yesterday.

I posted it on Snipers Hide and it was sold in 12 hours.

The Impact 737 part of the prefit probably favored SH's user base more than here, the 6BR part favored this site. It was a quality blank from CRB. TS Customs did the chambering.

Yes, I did buy a 1 month $20 membership over there to sell it, but it was worth it for the exposure because it actually sold.

Now I just need to sell those dies :)
