Chronograph accuracy

I have a BETA MASTER chronograph. It does not have the printer but does have the remote display.

Is there an accuracy difference between this and the more expensive makes and models of chronographs?

I did have problems with it on sunny days but I figured out how to overcome that issue with some paper and masking tape.

The Beta is a good crono. Test it with match grade .22 rim fire ammo that has a published velocity, Laupa and Eley or Wolf MT all have very consistent velocities.

Shooters get caught up in numbers. Does it really matter if your chronograph gives the exact same numbers as chronographs A,B,C or is there an acceptable accuracy,+/-) standard?

Personally, I don't care. My chronograph is simply a tool to let me know how a specific load is performing. If it's shooting less than 1.5 inches @ 500 meters, I don't really care if it's only running blank FPS when most everybody else is claiming blank FPS.
If the E.S. is in the single digits I'm tickled pink, which means more to me than velocity anyway.

My Chrony Beta Master may register a bit on the high side,or so some think) but since I don't really care, I've never compared it to another. Is it as good as an Oehler 35? For what i personally use it for, to me, hell yes at 1/3 the cost. To anybody else including Oehler owners probably not.

Proof is always on the target, be it group or score. In fact, with the current load that I'm shooting in my new barrel I didn't chronograph it till after I worked it up to the point of shooting less than 1.5 inches @500 meters with scores in the 90% range. I checked it on the chronograph to find out the E.S.,7 fps)as my primary concern, with velocity trailing the list of need to know factors.

If you compare your Beta to another, or an Oehler all that will do is to create doubt in your mind, and forever after you will be suspect of it's readings. Sometimes not knowing is the better choice to choose.

Have fun, enjoy, be happy!
