Chargemaster or manual dispenser?

I have two CM, one of which is sped up, the other is factory stock. With the CM (and varget) it usually gets to within .04-.1.
I also have 2. One is my backup still in the box. My primary has been re-programed and can drop dead on. It gives me maybe 1 in 20 loads that is off by 1/10 with mostly 8208, although i do shoot some stick powders.

Which Discipline ? The long range guys say the FX is a Must, but we 100-200 yard benchrest shooters use the RCBS and powder drops.

FX is not a must, but a precision scale that has trustable accuracy down to 1 kernel of powder is. (0.02 grains).
I run a chargemaster & check every charge with an Accu-Lab precision scale that I trust & has resolution down to 0.01 grain.

Only quoting what the Long Range guys say is BIBLE. I also own an Acculab Vicon. Great scale once they stabilize in temperature

No offence taken Class, - I've just found that I can accomplish the level of accuracy needed using the chargemaster & the Accu-Lab scale. I surely wouldn't be able to without the scale though. - I set my charge for a tenth grain under & then trickle up to weight.
I'd like to have the latest & greatest scale & trickle system but building additional rifles funnels the available funds in that direction & at the end of the day I might not throw charges as fast as a new full blown system but I'm well satisfied with the achievable accuracy obtained.

Looking at that target, Lower right the 1.694 go up and down 2-3 tenths of a grain and get that vertical out of there. Is it a 3 and 2 ? Is it on the jam ?
NICE HOLE !

Thanks for chiming in. Lower right is a 3 and 2 with the seating depth .009 from jam. With this particular bullet, the gun lost the ability to group the closer I got to jam. A week or so after this test session, I agged a .173 for eight, 5 shot groups with a bullet seating depth of .010 from jam.

There are MANY ways to achieve our goals, some of us more expierienced shooters and re-loaders have our own ways of doing things. As long as our goals are met to our satisfaction WGAF ! NO offence meant.
Where do you shoot that 50? I thought CA. had some kind of ban on them.

IMO the best combined value of accuracy/speed/cost is a GemPro250 using a weigh then count kernels to hit target weight method. I've used one for about a year, and recently upgraded to a nicer more expensive FX120i (still doing weigh then count kernels). Other than reducing the number of times I need to zero the pan, the scales have performed identically.

I'm not from California (LOL) - and yes the 50 BMG cartridge has been banned there along with a lot of other things............

- So. Central Louisiana is where I call home, - I've shot at Raton, NM, (NRA Whittington Center) & LLA (Louisiana Long Range Alley) Grand Cane, La, just south of Shreveport at 1000. - Shot at a mile in WA. State.

An ASSumption on my part "LA50". You know Geraci ? I love Raton, most benchrest guys FEAR that range because of high wind conditions, but i do well there. Some of the guys i shoot with do "SNIPER KING" in WA, although i've never shot that one.

I reprogrammed my first charge master and it didn't stand up my second one I didn't reprogram but now weigh the charges on a 1010 Ohaus that is accurate to one kernel rather of Varget and it is fast enough to work through loads and the chargemaster actually is extremely accurate but I do need to use the tweezers on occasion.

I set up my Uniflow to drop into the pan of my 505 and then trickle in using an Omega trickler. I check my scale before hand with check weights but I can load some rounds quickly and accurately with my set up. I would like a tuned M5 to replace the 505 but later.

Hopefully you are doing this with an ohaus era 505! Yo can get a M5 on ebay for less than 100 bucks that you can not so easily tune to be consistent to .025 once you get the tricks down. And to .05 without too much work. Some ohaus come out of the box this way.

If you dont have an ohaus 505 then do the check weights 20 times in a row and see what you get for true weighs.

I've had this 505 for 15 years, taken good care of it and stored in its box when not used for long stretches. I use the check weights in various combinations and I get consistent readings and for across the course shooting it gets the job done for me.

Then you got a good one! I didnt realize the trickler I use is what people refer to as the Omega. I thought mine was a Dandy - just looked it up. Yeah the trickler works great. One log at a time down the chute in slow mode!

My Chargemaster, when compared with (and by) my other scales, is quite accurate. The auto function is very slow compared to just throwing a charge with a GOOD powder measure, weighing and trickling by hand (I use fingers AAHHH!) If it were me, I'd buy a good powder measure like a Harrell's and a good scale - the Chargemaster scale is fine, I think, for all but the long range work. Then I want less than .10

I did not mean to make it sound that the Harrels powder measure by itself was as accurate as the Charger Master, just that it seams to be satisfactory for short range when loading at the bench and changing loads on the fly. I use the Charge Master, An Omega Trickler and my fingers for 1,000 yard loads.

I agree. Even at 100, I weigh my charges, regardless of measure used. I just recommend the Harrel's because there is less trickling involved when throwing charges - and I throw charges because I can't stand the slow speed of the auto charging function, though I have been told they can be speed up with a software tweak somehow. Most guys (?) just throw at 100 w/o weighing

Count me in as another convert to the beam scale users. I have 2 now, a RCBS 502 and a Lyman M5 both modded with the needle and web cam tricks. I keep a cheap electronic around for weighing bullets and setting the powder throw because for a unknown weight it is much faster. For trickling up a charge though using the throw and the beams is a lot faster and more accurate than the electronic. My Chargemaster has been sitting unused for months now
