CCI VS FED 205M

l’m getting ready to start loading for my 6mm BR handgun and was wanting some input on which primer seems to be best for the BR cartridge. Any information would be appreciated.

If there is no best then why bother testing them all, wouldn't any one primer be no better than another.

I have not used the BR-4 primers, but he Federal 205 & 205M primers are very good. I would not worry about it. Worse case scenario is you have to tweak your load a couple tenths of a grain.

You had better test them all, theres no best.

I've tried a few and Alex is right, you may find differences and don't assume CCI will rule the roost. CCI 450 and BR4's work well in my 6BRA...Sellior and Bellot trumps them both in my rifle.

How does the thickness of the Sellior and Bellot cup hold up pressure wise in your 6BRA?

Haven't tested it for pressure. I run 30.5gr of RL15, that moves a Berger 105gr vld at a very comfortable 2980fps out of a 30" Krieger, 1:8 twist. Didn't need or want to run faster than this. Zero pressure signs - primer cups normal on extraction, easy bolt lift, primer pockets remaining tight and above all great accuracy.

There is no best, but there is a best for your barrel.

Also for the case capacity to bore relationship, powder make and type etc. The 'best' primer for 6mm BR may or may not be the best for 308 Win SP brass, 200gn bullets and N150. Even within one cartridge such as the 6BR a light bullet and say Ramshot Xterminator may prefer a different model to loads employing 105-108s and H. VarGet.

I noticed with some interest that Bill Alexander, father of the 6.5mm Grendel advises new handloaders of the baby 6.5 to try one or more of the 'go to' powder and bullet recipes, find something promising, then try out as many primers as possible as the cartridge is very primer sensitive. IME this applies to most SP using cartridges and the smaller the cartridge, the more it generally applies.

What alex said. Check different primers for every different load up. I have had good luck with cci 200, 450, br 2, br 4, wlr, wsr and 1 or 2 that liked fed gold medal.

I have shot CCI 400, CCI 450, WSR, Wolf, Fed 205, 205M,and 205AR in my Dashers and BRA's. The best accuracy has been with the Federals (205 and 205M) and the CCI 400's. The worst was with CCI 450's. James

My primer of choice has always been BR4. This y3ar I have got a bit more involved in 1000 gr8 gr8. I had ES of 11 to 22 out of my 3 competition rifles. Started tweaking with primers. Have ES now of 1 to 4. I tried all the primers. The answer in all 3 rifles was FED205. Just a report on what I found out with my rifles.
