CCI BR4vs450?????

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
Just finished reading the James Calhoon primer dealie...

One question i have is.....What are the diffrences between the BR4 and the 450???????

They seem the same except for cup depth......What am i missing here?????

the 450 has a thicker cup.for the mix I cannot say.have read that they made the 450 just for a 223 to keep frm pierceing the primer.and the 450 is all I use to load for my 223 bolt gun.

phil; Everything you could possibly want to know about primers, including the two you mentioned, in "The Benchrest Shooting Primer", published by "Precision Shooting" magazine, page 131, authored by Steve Chernicky. Includes photos of flash brilliance comparisons, differences in Hi and lo, ED, velocity differences, etc.

Frank,

I`m gonna get my hands on that reading material....Thanks.

For now though, i just need the cliff notes version.....

Will i be missing out on something if i don`t have BR4`s in my reloading stock?????

PS........This is for a varmint rig...NOT a benchrest gun...

phil: The article in "Benchrest Shooting Primer" seems to indicate (by checking the ED, velocity spreads, etc), that the author found the 450's to be in-the-middle, with CCIBR4 being the best, and CCI400 being the "worst". As an example: Standard deviation is shown as: 22 with the #400. 19 for the #450. And 13 with the BR4. PM sent
