CCI BR4 Primers into 6mmBR brass. Harder to seat.

I have noticed it takes a little more effort to seat Remington 7 1/2 Primers in Lapua 6BR cases with my Lee AutpPrime than in 6.5 Creedmoor Lapua cases. It is still doable, but it takes slightly more effort. I have so many 7 1/2's left over from high power and they seem to work for me. If I ever go to BR-4's I hope my 70 year old hands can do the job. Now Nosler 6.5 Creedmoor brass and BR-2's have been almost impossable to hand seat even with pockets trued with a Sinclair tool. I bought one of the Lee bench tools and it does the job, but the primer feeder is a POS. I don't buy Nosler brass in CM anymore and when the stuff I have is trashed I can stop using the Lee tool.

I wonder if anyone else has found this out. I bought 6000 CCI BR4 primers from a friend and I see the 6MMBR Laupa brass loads call for this primer sometimes. But, I have to hit the Redding press handle with my palm to load them flush. Never had to do that with Remington 7&1/2.

Last year I had an issue with the BR4's not going off. I called CCI and they adamantly recommended that the BR4 primers be set approximately 5thousandths BELOW flush. I'd invite you to call them as they explained why and how to know when they are seated right. JME. WD

Good Point......I seat mine at 8k below flush.......I do go by feel but still check them 1 in every 10 just to be sure....The seater I mentioned stays rock solid.

I want those primer pockets to last. Like them tight to start with. No pocket uniforming flash hole deburring or anything else to lapua brass primer pockets.

Have no problem seating br4's in lapua 6br brass with my sinclair hand priming tool. I seat by feel not with some arbitrary seating depth number
Same thing I use and it works great, only had it for about 30 years now so not sure about its longevity. ;-)

Well, I broke out the K & M deluxe primer tool and had zero problems with the BR-4 into Lapua brass. I suppose it's just as good as the Sinclair hand held priming tool and it has a dial caliper on it. Now I know when I've got the primers in .002". Just takes a little longer to load 400 rounds for prairie dogs. Ha
