6 BR Lapua brass hard to seat primers ?

carl1575

I am still in the car business after 53 years
Just taking my first fling with 6 BR , new Lapua brass from Midway. Old CCI 450 primers, I am 77 and the price on the box is 77 cents, I have used hundreds of them in my 223s. I got the first 4 or 5 to seat ok, this is with a Lee hand tool (thought I was going to break the leaver off it though) Switch to my rock chucker and new Federal 205s and they took what I think is to much force. I have used a lot of Lapua brass in other rifles and yes they seated very firmly, but not lifting the bench firmly. Anyone else run in to this problem? Carl in Yakima

Solved my own problem, went to Cables this morning and low & behold on the shelf were a carton of CCI small rifle primers BR-4. Been looking for them for months, didn't like the price $60.00, but my lee primer tool and new Lapua brass like them-happy camper. Carl in Yakima

I had the same problem with new lapua 221 fireball cases..primer pockets were extremely tight. I am thinking the primer pocket will losen up after a few loadings..I never tried to run a primer pocket uniform tool through them..kind of odd..I also use CCI BR-4 primers.the remington 7 1/2 BR primers were just as tight.

I found that Lapua 6BR, which became 6 Dasher, had tight pockets with Wolf primers, which I believe are a bit larger then the run of the mill SR primers. When loading 223 brass, as pockets loosened, a switch to Wolf made for a tighter fit.
