Case volume comparison

Keith Glasscock

I've tried most, if not all of the ways to measure the internal volume of a case. Each has its drawbacks.

I have been working on a new way to do this job. My concept (it hasn't been tried or proven yet) would allow for comparisons between 2 cases.

If I can get this to work, which would be preferred:

A tool for sale to do comparisons
OR
A service similar to what DJ does with case forming and neck turning.

If the tool was $250 or more, would you buy it?

What would you be willing to pay for the service per case?

My initial plan is to build one for me, and once I'm satisfied with the reliability, accuracy, and sensitivity, engage a few of my friends to evaluate the quality of the results.

I don't know about the $250 or more but would definitely be interested if it's under $250.

I prefer to do everything myself. Only have one person to blame that way... lol

I just dont have time to ship cases off but if i could buy 100 that have the exact capacity like i can buy 220russians sorted from hoehn sales id be interested.

Dusty,

That is an interesting concept. I have always assumed that one would want to check volumes only on fully formed brass as the exterior dimensions would be as close as possible to identical.

If the cases started with the identical internal volume would they not form to a chamber and expand. And keep the same internal volume as the rest that would be formed in the chamber.

Just a question?
