Case sizing???

standard dies use inside neck expander after being reduced by the die, neck size dies only size the neck from the outside.
full length custom dies are all like standard dies in that they use neck expander after reducing outside neck size??? My question is are custom dies only neck sizing while they resize the body?
Why am I using a shoulder bump die if it will not resize the case enough to stop the case body from expanding too much. Thought I knew what I was doing after reading the forums but now I'm confused. Must admit it doesn't take much though!!!

When you order a FL custom die, it is usually a bushing die, and if it is not, you can specify the ID of the neck portion of the die. Expander balls cause problems in direct proportion to the amount of expanding that they have to do. If the bushing or neck ID of a one piece die are dimensioned correctly for your brass, and the expander only has minimal work to do, then brass straightness in not an issue. It is the small ID of the necks of typical one piece dies that cause the problems. These custom FL dies must be properly set by the user for the desired amount of shoulder bump. IF this is done, they will bump the shoulder. Shoulder bump dies are not designed to reduce the diameter of fired case bodies, and for that reason, I will never use one. It would be a waste, given the pressures that I commonly load to, safe but stout. One other thing, to properly set up a FL die measurements must be taken before and after sizing, with the correct tool(s). Others may post of doing this by feel, but I disagree. IMO it is always better to measure...and know.

I do not doubt you, but we cannot tell what the chamber and die dimensions are from a post on the internet, and I have seen cases where because the die was too large for the chamber, by the time the feel was as desired, the shoulder had been pushed back too far, and this is how incipient separations and case head separations can happen...so when I do not have the rifle in hand, I always tell folks to measure. There is no case where measuring is a problem, and there are some where feel can be.

William....I've used FL and NS rounds for hunting. If another is carrying a rifle with same cartridge....I'll take FL, just in case he/she needs extra ammo.

Can I suggest to just send a couple fire formed casings to Harrel Precision? Wow la you have a close fitting die!!!
