Case Lube

That is what I've been using bit starting to load .223/5.56 in bulk and need something less hands on.
I will go back to Hornady OneShot because its fast and if you take 2-3 seconds to wipe the case from neck to base while its in the shell holder it gets way more consistent sizing.

If I am only sizing a few, or have some really tough resizing I'll use Imperial. Otherwise I use 12:1 Bootleg case lube. At that mix ratio I've never seen any evidence of a lube dent no matter how much you spray on. I can size while the cases are still wet and it just WORKS. Quick to apply and easy to remove.

Only issue I ever had with Bootleg was the first time I sized belted mag cases. Didn't think about the belt holding the body off the pan I spray and roll them on. Just spray them, let them roll 1/2 turn and spray again. Problem solved.

By laying them flat and spraying them rolling them it applies the lube very uniformly. Case head to datum on sized cases is very consistent.

Coconut oil. Put a little in your hands and run the cases though to lube a whole batch. Sizes smooth and consistent. Cheap, Edible, and Readily available pretty much everywhere.
I have found nothing better than imperial if you are afraid to try coconut oil and need a product that is marketed to gun people though

I'm usually an Imperial guy but for that price I figured I'd give this a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

I’m liking this better than the Imperial. Great price too, its usually full price.
So, my Midway order arrived and last night I gave the two a head to head.
My man cave is not connected to the house HVAC and gets chilly this time of year. Miserably chilly in another month when its below zero outside but I digress.
The Imperial was easier to wipe a little onto my cold fingers than the Hornady but the Hornady could be a bonus in the warmer months (opposite problem). The Hornady seems to have more wax in it and provides a slicker lube job by comparison. This was unexpected but while I know that most of us have shoulder setback variation despite our best efforts. I measured each case in the head to head and the Hornady had a narrower variation swing than the Imperial. I write that off to the higher viscosity. I will continue to use the Imperial during these colder months. If I were lubing cases for a drastic size change, the Hornady would be my first choice regardless of the temp in my man cave.

They're both good choices but while the Hornady was on sale, it was a better value. I probably have a lifetime supply with these two new tins, combined with my tin and a half of imperial. ;)

I see all the "I use Imperial its the best" posts so I decided to try it, used it to turn 30-30 brass to
22 Savage High Power in two steps. I normally use Lanolin or the LEE lube and anneal two times to do this and go from 30-30 to 25-35 then to 22 High power.

The cases squealed like I was murdering them going through the die using Imperial case lube, I
tried more lube then less lube with the same result. Lanolin is magic compared to Imperial.

Whew! I’m glad I didn’t take a scalding.;)
If you wiped the cases off with just a towel, could you tell a difference in the way they feel? I thought maybe the Hornady had a smoother less grabby feel.

Nah, I don't buy the simple wipe off claim for one second. I myself, do wipe the cases down using a technique I developed but which is tantamount to insanity to try to put into words. I do that before putting them in the vibratory tumbler. The pre-wipe reduces the media getting choked up with lube so quickly, which can't help degrease them. Truth be told. Vibratory tumbling probably doesn't thoroughly degrease them either. Just scrapes off the Lion's Share. I want my cases to grip the chamber walls and also not bake the lubricant off themselves into those walls due to how hot the case gets momentarily. No, I don't weigh my turds.

Man you just made me go out to the garage to fumble through a box of brass that I just processed and primed setting there ready to be loaded. I just don’t feel the grease and I will hit them again with a clean microfiber towel after I seat the bullet.
But I’m here to learn and you certainly have me thinking, and I hope I learn most of it before I get to the end. Thanks.

I’ve tried just about every lube on the market as well as the lanolin mix, and what I use now is 1 ½ oz of Hornady LIQUID one shot (not the wasteful aerosol) mixed with 12 oz of red Iso-Heet. The liquid does not affect primers or powder, no post-lube cleaning required. Just a couple sprays in a ziplock bag, shake, let the alcohol evaporate for 15 minutes, and reload. Leaves a nice slick (NOT sticky) coating on the brass that stays for weeks stored in another ziplock. How I came about this is another story….but this mix really works great.

Call me different or "thinking outside the box" but I use ASTROGLIDE , it worked good for other sensitive lube situations so I figured what the heck.... oh ya and the best part its water soluble!o_O:eek::cool:

I bet nobody keeps a straight face when you got the bottle setting on the bench!
