Case dryer question

I'm considering the purchase of a case dryer and there are quite a few brands out there. Some people use a toaster oven (me included) and some use a food dehydrator. i set a tray of brass outside in the sun when it's hot enough. Hard to do in the winter.

So what has been your experience with these dryers and do you like them? Would a dehydrator be better?

Thanks

I bought a food dehydrator from wally world for around $45 last year, has 5 trays w/ lid, variable temp control, is pretty quiet, as I don't have to turn the TV up with it running. $$ well spent IMO. I lay 'em out in the sun too, but if I'm cleaning brass on a rainy day, I pull the dehydrator out of the pantry and I'm drying brass in 5 minutes.

Shake them out and put them in the oven on a cookie sheet at 175 degrees for 30 mins. Easy peasy.

The food dehydrator plan will work every time
Just make sure you don’t make a batch of Jerkey after you dry a batch of brass

I have a huge case dryer and when I'm not using it, I let my wife dry clothes in it. Seriously, try your regular clothes dryer. I use a tennis shoe rack and a metal baking pan. Set it on cotton high for 20 or 30 minutes and you're all set. No need for a special appliance. Use something you already have on hand, plus it's quick and effective and it's a multi-tasking device as well. If you don't have a tennis shoe rack, put your cases in a mesh sports bag, tie a knot in the neck, and trap the bag in the dryer door with the knot on the outside and the bag of cases hanging inside the door in such a way that it won't interfere with the rotating drum.

Best dryer I've found is a hair dryer and cardboard box. Lot's of air flow and can easily get the temp up to 170 F. I load only rifle ammo and use compressed air to blow out excess water and any left over SS pins that might still be in the case before drying. Ten to twenty minutes in my "hot box" and they're ready to load.

Probably not best system for someone processing thousands of cases at a time, but it works for me when processing a couple of hundred at a time. As always, YMMV

The kitchen oven is just too easy and effective to not use for this. Water turns to vapor at about 200 degrees, so that's my temp. Brass is not effected by that temp. My brass has never needed more than twenty minutes to dry, and probably much less than that. jd

I have to concur with the oven. Crank it to 225 or so, and go to town. Takes about 15-20 minutes. The only thing to be careful about is whether or not you have a significant other who will object to this, as the objection tends to be swift and severe in my experience.

Stick with your toaster oven if you have one. That is what I use. I shake the water out of the cases and toss them in the over at 150° for 30 minutes. Could lower the time by upping the temp, but I am never in a hurry.

I blow mine out with compressed air then hair dryer bout 15 minutes, but it's work, oven works best if I'm feeling lazy

I use a dehydrator and can do 100, cases ,beef jerky and banana chips in all about 4 hrs.
Multi tasking at it's best.

I live in Florida. Put them on a towel on the table in the courtyard for 1 hour. Wear an oven mit to pick them up and all is done.

got a hanging 500w quartz flood light,5 minutes done and just about annealed ,too , gets hot quick,,

I hit them with shop air nozzle, load the next day.And we have several methods in the shop for heating( toaster oven, electric griddles, bow hot boxes, furnace, etc).
