Carbon Fibre cleaning rods??????

looking to try out some tipton carbon fibre cleaning rods. Anyone used them? Are they worth a try? Ill be using them in .20 cal.

I've been using a Tipton in 30 cal for a few years with great luck. They are very light weight, ultra smooth, and high quality. I'm more than satisfied with mine and will get another to replace my Dewey when I get another .22 cal rifle. They are good cleaning rods.

Many of our readers tell us they prefer the Carbon rods,Tipton being one) for 22, 20, and 17 calibers. With these smaller diameters, especially 17), it is all too easy to put a kink or bend in a steel rod. The carbon rod, by contrast, will flex and return to normal.

Re the Tipton rods. I've heard some stories about people having the carbon break at the handle. However that seems to happen right away if it is going to happen at all--probably from the carbon getting damaged during handle installation.

The Tipton's handle is pretty large and it has a cap at the end that does NOT swivel. Stan Ware has a trick--he removes the cap and replaces it with a counter-sunk bolt head. That way he can push on the end of the rod without interfering with its rotation.

If you rub 2 objects together, the one made of the softer material will wear. Which is harder, steel or carbon?

not if the soft one is embedded with something harder than the hard one...,not necessarily regarding Carbon rods...just an observation)

That said, RE: Tipton CF Rods, I hate the handle thru-bearing that doesn't allow one to push the rear of the handle.

Jason, the fix for that is to do what Stan ware has done--remove the rear end cap and replace with a nut that is recessed.

I use to use the CF rods by Tipton but I just got sick and tired of the large handle interfering with the stock. Now I'm back to my old Dewey rod and I love the thing.
