F-TR obssessed shooting junkie
Greetings from Canada. :)

Canadian border guys were great. When I told them I was shooting a competition at Connaught one said "F class?" ;)

I want to cross where you did. So...where did you cross? Looking to make my trek to World's as uneventful as possible. Drew

Our last string was rained out today so they don't have the daily agg. Listed yet. You can check www.dcrastatsshack.ca for the first 3 strings. Tomorrow will be a long day starting with today's final string.

Just to be clear, it was the Lightning, not the rain that ended the day's activities today.

Can someone explain the scoring to me?....I get the V's are like x's....how does one achieve a score of 50? How many shots are fired during a string?

The targets are very similar to the ones used state-side, but instead of X-10-9-8-7-6-5 they are scored V-5-4-3-2-1. They also shoot shorter strings - 10 or 15 rds instead of 15-20 like in the U.S. So a perfect score on a 10 shot string would be a 50, with however many V's.

The shorter strings tend to magnify the effect of *any* mistakes... not many opportunities to make up lost points. Add in that everything is shot pair-fire, either two or three to a mound, and wind reading becomes much more of a factor. Accuracy still counts, but you have to read the conditions just right to snake 'em in the center.

Thank you sir for the explanation....I'll be getting a dose of it next month.

Just to give some of the spectators out there an idea of what is happening up here.

I shoot F-TR, I'm running the 200-20x bullet at 2675FPS.

Yesterday I shot V-bulls in the same match holding center and holding edge of black, with 3 minutes on the gun.

I've started a match with 4 minutes, dialed off 1½ mid string, and still ended up holding 4 rings.

Practice on Thursday I had 7¼ on. Just holding center and shooting to get elevation I shot 3s on both sides in 5 shots.

Today I don't think I shot with less than 4 minutes on the gun, and I've had 4 on the gun holding 4 rings, and I've held center in that same match.

I have not been on the line with less than 2MOA on the gun, that's kind of a starting point, take a look, what ever you think it is, add it to 2 and you will be close.

In the team match I came off with 4 minutes on the gun.

My team mates, running 185s came off with 6½ to 7½. I had a team mate shooting 185s get a sighter miss off the right with 6½ left on the gun.

There were angle changes today that were worth a solid 1½ to 2 MOA, the letoffs can be worth 3, (don't want to think about an angle change and a letoff together) and the folks who shoot here say this is a medium difficulty kind of day. We're not at the 12 to 18MOA range, which I hear they get here. (18MOA is three targets to your right or left)

The only other range I've seen with the kind of wind you see here is Raton, though I've read that Rattlesnake is as hard.

Thanks for coming up Wade, it was great having you. To add to your commentary I'll just say that for the Final today I had 4.5 min on with the 200 Jack at @ 2675 and went anywhere from 8 mins down to 1.5. We'd call those conditions "sporting". ;)

Thank you to everyone who came up to our match, and to all our admin, range, and butts staff who do so much to help make these matches run smoothly.

Look forward to seeing everybody in August!

Outstanding, Scotty. I'd much rather see matches won on the firing line by the best wind reader than at the loading bench.

Kudos again to your range staff... they keep things moving along like a well-oiled machine.

Organizers did a amazing job running shoot thanks, to Barry,Scott,Cathy, Range officers and the target pullers where flawless and very fast.
Barry Price was at range every day at 6.00am till close and looked after bring pullers to butts every day. and still was able to shoot a amazing score in very tough conditions Price Barry Open 99 13v in final at 900 m
I am sure this group of organizers will run Canadian Nationals and the Worlds in Aug without a hitch
