Can we chat about 1911s?

You don't say what Accuracy X model you are considering. If fixed sight, also look at Alchemy Custom Weaponry, a division of Cabot, but run by Rob Schauland. Rob builds a great 1911, I have one from his prior ACW incarnation in Illinois before he went to Cabot. Also, look at Bunker Arms who will build you pretty much any type of 1911 you want, take a look at his website and you'll see the breadth of his talent. I have one of his full house versions and bunch of others he worked on for me before he went strictly to "full house". Here is a pic of the "full house".Bunker Arms - Rt Side.jpg

Those alchemys are stunning, but its going to be kind of close to a race gun....ish? Like a tame race gun. Haha.

When I was in the market a few years back I went the route of Les Baer premier 2 had a few options put on including the trigger lightened and am20171002_103724.jpg very happy it shoots better then me never shot any other high ends to compare it to though

I have a SR1911 I received as a retirement present. I'd like to send it off for some work but before you know it I paid the price of the pistol if not more so it's gonna stay stock.

If I want a custom high end I'll start from scratch with a custom builder. I'm more into fit and function so I'd pass on some things like flat topping, serrated back of slide, etc. I've seen some beautiful work but I'd spend my money on barrels, triggers, sights and some grip work but that's just me.

The best value in a higher end, 1.5” at 50yd guaranteed pistol, is the Rock River wad gun(optics rail) or Hardball for iron sights.
One of mine has close to 30k through it and it is smooth as butter and will still hold 2” from a ransom rest.
An accuracy x, Joe Chambers, Brandon Bunker, Roddy Toyota or KC Crawford all have the same 1.5” guaranteed.

From what I’ve seen and read about the Les Baer, that won’t hold the 1.5” group for thousands of rounds like the above builders.

Rock River has them in stock last time I looked.

There is a RRA hardball on the bullseye forum today for $2100 you should look at.

@mousegunner

For the most part im going pretty mild, however im building it to be shot at stupid long distances about 85% of the time, and it will spend its other 15% dabbling in bullseye competitions. My main requirement for this 1911 was utmost accuracy and a frame mounted rail that was independent from the slide so I can mount scopes, or a red dot or an adjustable base scope mount for "artillery" shots haha.

But im planning on putting on a few personal options.
No sights front and rear (wont need them with the pic rail)
flat trigger
Blacked out
And a 6 inch slide and barrel if that fits into my budget.

Trashy,

Accuracy X is definitely a great choice. At Perry I have had the pleasure of talking with Steve and fondling his guns on the table (can't forget about the cookies).

You definitely won't be disappointed in it. Top notch people and Top notch guns.

Old news is old, but this pig came in a while ago and I sent it off to accuracy x to have a frame mounted rail built long enough to fit this. With 150 moa of adjustment I should be able to reach out past 500. I will write up a full review when the 1911 is done on this piece of kit. Seems like it would be excellent for long distance .22s, subsonic rifles, and extreme distance shooting.

I did most my own pistol smithin' in the shop back during
the days of the bowling pin wars. Second Chance was a must
for the yearly pilgrimage. Springfield Armory had just released
a clone 1911, and I ordered 2. One for my shop, and one was
sent off to Richard Heinie for a no ginger bread 5.5" comp gun,
specifically for pins. And in the wait time, I was working on a
559 S&W 9mm that I heavily modified a new barrel design and
ramp to fire a 165 grain bullet. That Heinie won me a new Dillon
press off the prize table.

I'm envious of all you fellows that can still hold a precision pistol steady. Those days are gone for me, my hands shake like a leaf. Time to pack them up and give them to the boys.

Lots of guys I know have switched to the Ivey adjustable base. I can still half way hang on with the Contender, Encore or XP if its bagged up solid and all I have to do is bump the trigger.

I have a few but have not jumped into the true custom. I have a S&W 1911 PC Doug Keonig model, a Springfield Range officer in 45 & 9MM, I have an early Colt Commercial built by Guidry that has S&W revolver sights milled into the slide Herret grips and a few other goodies. I have couple lower end 1911's I call my poor mans race guns. See the attached photos on the 9MM RIA one. I also have a Springfield Mil Spec one set up similar in 45 ACP. Then I just traded for a Springfield TRP long slide 10mm. I always wanted a Les Bear never could pull the trigger on the $2,500

Out of all of them I have the RIA 9mm is by far the most fun and I the least amount of money in it. Shoots 6" ish groups at 50yds with 125gr cast RN bullets. Maybe $650 all in on it.
